Does it still work ok on mains?

You should get a replacement batter on ebay for about £20/£25

The power supply unit on my Dell laptop played up and the charge was intermittent. This was because the connection from the mains lead into the PSU was dodgy. Although the unit is moulded I split it and remade the connections. New PSU's are available - don't know how much. Good luck.
