This course at Hartlepool College was the 1st in the country and allows the street cleansing operatives learn more about their job and about the horticultural departments.

The course was modified/developed to meet the needs of the council and its street cleansing operatives and included a tailor made programme.

The Customer and improvement Manager for regeneration and neighbourhoods , highly praised it.

The NVQ allows the street cleansing operatives to broaden their skills across both street cleansing and horticulture.

I think it’s vital that any employer makes sure that their staff are well trained. We all know that qualifications are the key to future success, not just for the employees - but for the local authority as well.

It’s great to see us setting the benchmark of achievement in this field, and hopefully we can act as the guiding light for Local Environment Services – not just in the North East Of England, but throughout this great land.
