It was hard hitting stuff but enjoyed it in a funny sort of way.

There are many ways to end your life but to starve yourself to death for a political or religious reason is madness.

I watched passenger 57 starring wesley snipes.

Classic early 90's entertainment.

Elvis, was Frankie Hughes mentioned in this thing last night? Hughes was without question the most dangerous and the bravest (through gritted teeth) member of the PIRA throughout its entire existance.

Thats him top row, second from the left.

Seems to be doesn't it. Hughes's activities were before my time over the water but even a few years later his name was spoken of with a grudging respect.

Frank Hughes isn't mentioned. A pal of mine is from the Derry area and he told me some of the tales associated with Francis Hughes over there. I remember reading a comment from a British army colonel who said that Hughes would have fitted easily into any conflict around the world, he was that adept at what he was doing, unlike his partner Dominic McGlinchey who just as ruthless but nowhere near as capable. Wasn't there only 5 or 6 of them in South Derry (including Thomas McIlwee, another of the hunger strikers) who just caused havoc?

I watched it by the way. Part of my Upper 6th's History course is 20th century Irish history, and they were utterly gobsmacked by the film the first time I showed them it. Very powerful stuff. I also have some stuff sent over by Bik McFarlane (I'm friendly with a member of his family) who was IRA OC in the Maze prison at the time of the strikes which got them too. No matter what side you're on, it's one powerful story.
