Looks like they are all going to be door stops soon. Apparently all customers are receiving a new smart card in the next month or so and Virgin are moving to a system called nagra 3 encryption which apparently puts a stop to all the pirates on cable.

This new system recognises the box via a return path, the pirate box's have no return path so will unfortunately lose their service.

Possibly but apparently Virgin are putting out all the stops to end the piracy. Mind there's always one clever sod to get them going again.

From all reports that I have read about Nagra 3, it is nothing really to worry about. If anything it limits VM keyrolling and ECM attacks.

What I would be more concerned about is VM attempt to have all there tv on iptv (on demand). This would make it more difficult for box makers like starview, eurovox and co. I suppose it would have to mean cloning STB and if VM really wanted to they'll trace you with a clone.

With this in mind folks, how relaistic is all tv going down the On-demand route? Do Ofcom have a say in this? And which current box i.e dreambox, eurovox do you think is in the best position to counteract these measures?

The word 'karma' springs to mind.

Why not use the money you have saved from not paying virgin to pay for your car?

I wonder who'll be daft enough to buy any of the 1000's of these boxes that are gonna end up on e-bay!!!

I've read on one of the satellite/cable forums that Nagra3 has already been cracked in Portugal or somewhere, so it's back to the drawing board for the encryption boffins at Virgin Media!!!

its the age old thing of if someone can create something it can be undone its just a question of finding out how.

Nagra 3 is already in place in Ireland, whether this is a trial run to see if anyone can crack it before it is introduced over here.... gods knows, but it will be still a good couple of years before it is tried over here, if it is tried at all...... A lot of work and a hell of a lot of money goes into changing from Nagravision 2 to Nagravision 3....
