Talking of the cinema, has anyone seen that new one with Ricky Gervais. Something about telling lies.

Anyone seen the new 'The Firm' too?

You always new when a film had reached the boring bits, the kids would start chuntering...an audible hum.

Shame them 2 buildings we're a shithole and not open by the time the 90's came about and a new generation could have enjoyed these buildings.

The odeon is a massive building it could be used for so much.

Saw a film called Day of The Dolphin at the Odeon, possibly the worst film I've ever seen at the pictures. There were 6 people in and me and my mate hadn't paid as he'd won free tickets for the year in a Mail competition.

It was like being on a visit to the Echo, echo, echo arena when they aren't playing Pools...the Odeon soon closed.

I know in this area for a long time there's been sod all for children and teenagers to do. Then people get offended and critical when kids hang round street corners in gangs. As some posters have said on another thread, governments always invest in the wrong things.

I remember seeing a film called Pete's Dragon at the Odeon. Whilst all the kids were watching the fillum, they used to put giant dragon like footsteps on the floor in the foyer leading out of the building, to give the impression that ' Petes Dragon' had actually been there!!! Oh the innocence of childhood.. {sighs}...........

Went to see Close Encounters of the Third Kind at the Odeon, one of the first 'dates' with my long time significant other. Remember watching from upstairs in the 'Circle', and as the spaceship appeared from behind Devils Tower I had a look around, and every person I could see was sat on the edge of their seats, almost all with their mouths wide open, not being able to believe what they were seeing. Also saw Star Wars there with her, we had to leave before the 'medal ceremony' at the end of the film, to dash down to the Bus Station in time to get her back to Billingham.

The Essoldo may just be a Bingo Hall now, but at least it is an impressive building still in use.

There was the Odeon on the junction of Raby Road and York Road.

The Essoldo on the juncton of York Road and Middleton Grange Lane

The Nogs in York Road opposite the end of Carlton Street

The Gaumont down in Stranton.

I can't place where the ABC was.

The ABC was in Raby Road, just past the Engineers club and just about opposite the junction of Lauder St, or over the road from what is now the Peoples Centre I think.

Yeah, the people's centre was the Labour Exchange when our kid was a nipper. The old Police Station was next door over the junction of Lauder Street and Raby Road. The ABC was just down from and on the same side as Lawrences house towards town.

Always liked the pre-film ad where the voice over called it "Rabby Road". Always on the Odeon, always made me laugh.
