Well that's gratitude for you, especially after Lincoln waited patiently for Jackson to recover after his cancer surgery.

Taken from his Wikipedia page:

Lincoln City
On 30 October 2007, he was appointed as manager of League Two side Lincoln City who were bottom of the Football League.[3] His first game in charge ended in a 1–0 home defeat to former club Chester City three days later, when he had a disagreement with the referee at the final whistle resulting in a touchline ban.[4] In February 2008, he was diagnosed with throat cancer and announced that his treatment would commence in March.[5] Lincoln won five of their six games in February to lift them clear of the relegation places and Jackson was named the League Two manager of the month.[6] He was presented with his award in his final game before beginning treatment, when his side defeated Wycombe Wanderers 1–0 to lift them up to 14th in the table.[7]. In his absence, Lincoln were managed by Jackson's assistant Iffy Onuora, with assistance from Youth Team Coach Grant Brown. In June 2008, Jackson's doctors told him the treatment had been a success, but he will need regular check-ups until 2013, to ensure he does not relapse.[8]

He returned to action and in January 2009 signed a new contract with Lincoln to keep him at the club until 2011.[9]

After a loss in a cup game to Darlington on September 1st 2009, Pater Jackson along with assistant Iffy Onoura seperated from Lincoln City via mutual concent.

I know that, but what has gratitude got to do with it?

Surely Lincoln showed more then enough 'gratitude' by standing by him when he was sick

And whilst getting beat by Darlington in the JPT is humiliating in itself, it still doesn't warrant sacking your manager in my opinion at the start of September.
