And this is precisely the reason why the honours system is a farce. They are now entirely worthless.

An honour for what? Supporting a lower league football team? We'll all have one then. The Middlesbrough community bloke I can understand but celebrities? Behave! they got into their job for the money and fame not 'for services to'

Do me a favour!

He's a nice decent bloke but he's not in the job for any other reason than to support himself and his family. Nothing wrong with that at all but its hardly above and beyond is it.

Well true, I can see where you're coming from, he didn't start off famous, his fame grew when he got noticed.

His fame grew when he got noticed. Name me one person whose fame didn't grow when they became famous

The point that I'm trying to make is that he didn't become famous immediately.

Exactly. It was only as he carried on being himself and started to establish football Saturday that he became so well-loved.

But as Mr I said he got into jounalism for the money, then worked his way up, probably movingto the next job, because it was worth money.

Most of the honours system is outdated, I will say that people who serve the community deserve a recognition, but celebrities as a whole have been well paid and that was their intention.

I have a plaque on my wall which states

" In recognition and appreciation of devoted and loyal service to the community in general and the Fire Brigade in particular between 25th August 1978 and 22nd April 2009".

Now without being bigheaded I believe something like that, and many other members of "joe public", have earned the right to being recognised than someone who has made many more thousands of the british sterling than I and other's have earned, simply serving their communities.

Now Im not saying I want an MBE, or OBE but please feel free to nominate me for one of the aforementioned, in the New Years honours list. rolfl rolfl

I first saw Delia Smith on Multi Coloured Swap Shop.

If anyone has seen the Rolling Stones Let it Bleed LP, she was the one who made the cake on the front of the sleeve.

..are you really suggesting you get rewarded for merely being .... famous..? .....does that mean a knighthood for Hitler, Pol Pot and Stalin? .. they're famous.

I hate the system and all it stands for. Do we really need the Royal family? I think not. What have they ever done for Hartlepool other than send a few hundred to their deaths in a couple of world wars rage
The alternative? I can't believe that anyone voted for the BN......... Yeah, a laughing stock as far as I am concerned

i think you'll find it was the Governments of the time who sent people to their deaths in two world wars. The system may not be perfect but I find it preferable to celebrating President Browns birthday.
