....the best thing to do is to get the publicity machine on the road on the back of the rumour mill and start letting them know you're coming... then see what happens....

...what we have now and have always had, are are a group of tired party hacks with the imagination of a sheet of playwood. Their loyalty is to their party first ....that's why this town has lagged behind for years as an imagination free zone of indifference aided by an electorate so bored out of their skulls by the sheer mind numbing banality on offer under the guise of 'politics' that they vote Labour or Conservative on autopilot, like their parents and grandparents before them .
You have to grab peoples attenetion, make em laugh then make em think.

I moved this away from the SIS until we know where our mayor sits on the subject.

The idea of actually getting elected is an irrelevance in a way, it's the thought of 'the barbarians at the gate' that gets their minds focused. The idea of something radical and politically indifferent causes all sorts of problems for incumbent politicians. If word gets out 'accidentally' that such a thing as we are discussing is a possibilty, there is no target for them to shoot at, that causes real dilemmas for those with everything to lose...the politicians.
HALF THE TIME IT'S NOT ABOUT GETTING ELECTED, IT'S ABOUT GETTING THE POLITICIANS ATTENTION .... rather like visiting the dentist and just as he's about to start, you grab him by the balls and say..." we aren't going to hurt each other are we...?"

Government in this country is dictated to by small, vocal pressure groups with a mission, whereas the vast majority of people are ignored because they aren't gonna make a 'fuss'...... Politicians will always pander to the noisiest voice, as silence in the electorate = contentment.
Fact is, a spoilt child usually gets what it wants, or there'd be no spoilt children, while the well behaved kid gets a pat on the head, is generally ignored and almost invariably taken for granted...Tantrum time.

Is there a 'ROYAL fAMILY' of Labour councillors in Hartlepool...? It seems they go on for ever like the living dead ...only not as effective.

Hell, I'd stand if I wasn't at University.

Even if it doesn't go through successfully, Snowy's completely right - the faintest attempt at getting what we want would result in others thinking about the minorities (as politicians always do...) - maybe this could change Hartlepool forever!

Just a word of warning, assuming the best case scenario and everyone who stands gets elected, no one will be able to take part in any decision relating to the Council selling the ground.

If you are a season ticket holder, you would have to declare an interest. This has been tested through the courst with Liverpool Council and a planning application for Anfield.

It is also a Cabinet decison whether to sell the ground or not (or at least a committee of the Cabinet who do not have to declare an interest) therefore full Council does not make the decision.

Last time, it fell on 3 Councillors to make the decision (Ray Waller, Peter Jackson and Stanley Fortune). The latter is no longer with us and of the current Cabinet, Pam Hargreaves and Vic Tunilty could be added to that list.

The real reason as to why it was turned down was nothing to do with considering Mill House in the future. I will mention other things at a later date.

Incidentally, I was VERY surprised that they did not agree to sell after things that were said in meetings.

My Dad always despised councillors from the big parties .... he always described them as the .... 'offspring of Uriah Heep who become your best ever mate for the weeks leading up to the election, then disappear quicker than the Marie Celeste's crew' ... I left the swear words out

I'm sure there could be a way of publicly destroying our season tickets after having a word in a certain persons shell like that would enable said (ex) season ticket holders to obtain said same priviledges of being a season ticket holder....unofficially of course.
