When we moved from the Headland, to near the top of Warren Road, aged about 13, and the locals lads (including Poolymad) found out my name, I kept getting called Kenny Bottles. I never had a clue what they were talking about then, and I'm still not to sure even now. sctatchinghead

How about Frank the Flasher from the Chester allotments or the bloke with no arms who sold matches with his feet? Apparently he got accused of being a kiddie fiddler so he rolled himself off the pier at the Headland.

We had:

"Albert" - Think he was called Albert Deer, didn't have electricity and borrowed taties and sugar from people. Often shaved on his doorstep at 3am and once witnessed a murder.

"The Divvy" - Fella called Dave Dobson, hated kids, eventually got evicted as far as I know

"Cowly cowly custard" - Yubep will know this one, we used to shout that in his alley and run away, never knew why!

"Go fella" - Lived in Bruntoft and wore a coca cola hat and had a grey goatee, used to run everywhere

"Jesus jones superstar" - Wore a sonic helmet on his bike and had the song "Jesus jones superstar, comes round the corner on his yamaha, pulled a skid, killed a kid, caught his knackers in a dustbin lid"

Can't think of anymore, west view was a worrying place!

Can anyone remember the old bloke who lived just off Stockton Road in a run-down bungalow. I think it was only knocked down a few years back. Rumour had it that he was an old miser who had inherited a soft drinks company but wouldn't spend the money. He was once locked a friend of my cousin's in his shed for daring to venture into his garden, only let him out about 2 hours later.

Does anyone remember a bloke referred to as Sid Snot? He was a funny shape, had a hunchback, stunk, he looked like a tramp and his teeth were like a witch doctor's necklace. He once fell off his stool in Ladbrokes and everyone burst out laughing.

We used to call him Mucky Sid. He used to go in the bookies raby road near the chester and shout what price in the blue all the time. Then put on 10p forcasts. We also had a young lad called Radio 1. He lived in milbank road a seem to remember. Could even have been some relation to Coco.

It was opposite Ewart Parsons, there is a new bungalow there now. He was one of the Guthries A la lemonade. Ive spoken to him a few times ( when he was alive of course not in a Derek Acorah kind of way) and he was a very intelligent kindly man (not in a kiddy fiddler kind of way either!) He spent most of his time in a little off shot at the back/side of his house and I have seen him hand feeding wild rabbits and birds!! He had loads of stocks and shares and money tied up in Hong Kong but reckoned it never brought him any happiness so left it there.

That's good to know. I remember we were all frightened of him as kids, probably just because he looked like your stereotypical scary old man. The lad who got locked in the shed was one of David Murphy's mates (I'm led to believe your Si H's uncle if that's correct) and I suppose it taught him a lesson cos he wouldn't dare go back in the garden again! All of these people who 'normal' people think are strange and weird probably have lived some of the most interesting lives we'd ever hear about.
