It's doing my bonce in aswell Mr Salt.

Fkin yankee ponces.

The BBC are as culpable for the unwarranted coverage that it's all getting, especially seeing as though "Gordon is a moron" is taking the opportunity of fking our country over whilst the news channels are preoccupied with the fat yanks.

I caught his speech. He'll have to change his name to Blairack Obama, because he was making the same ear syrup as Blair did in 97, everything to everyone.

Yeah and that's why he got elected. Blair in the early years was a really great orator who at the time offered a fresh way of thinking.

We've had twelve years nearly of a Labour government - he must have done something right in order for that to last.

That's what I believe a politician should be: realise there are challenges, but have the guts to say "It might be tough now, but we're going to get through these problems and when we overcome them, it will be brilliant."

Their banking system caused the credit crunch which cause the economic downturn and likely recession that we're suffering at the moment.

Whether you like it or not, what happens in America affects people around the world.

Today is a historic day: if Martin Luther King Jr could have been alive today, as well as Abraham Lincoln etc, they would have been proud of that nation choosing him to be President. It shows how far the country has come.

Americans have got a lot of stick in the last eight years as they have been stereotyped like those who have acted irresponsibly under Bush. Under Obama, I think Americans are now a different and changed people.

He is the first African-American President of the United States of America, that just so happens to be African American. He did not get elected just because he is "black".

He got elected because he is the total opposite of thankfully now FORMER (Yes!!!) President Bush. Obama is very smart, he listens to people, he's thoughtful - not a lot of politiciens show their true feelings - and he is certainly way more animated than a certain Prime Minister of the UK.

I wasn't old enough to vote in 2001 and 2005, so you can't blame it on me.

As for Gordon Brown, he came in without being elected, but I don't see a better solution, despite the fact Brown is serious but good at what he does, because I don't see the "Obama factor" in Cameron or Clegg or Brown.

nothing will change just the percieved view that he is doing something, the people behind bush are the same behind obama, they have just backed him with the slogan of change. the same kids hold the keys to the kindom rockerfellas bilderbergs etc got what they wanted in Iraq and afganistan blamed the monkey at the helm and now have a new prodigal son to so called change for the better.

problem, reaction solution.

PoK You really are clueless aren't you.

Do you think that because Barrack Obama is the president that a white man will be able to walk around the likes of harlem without fear of race attacks, or a black man will be able to walk around places like jacksonville and alabama without the same fears.

The same kind of racial prejudice and discrimination that was around 40 years ago (although not on as large a scale) is still rife but very much glossed over and hidden from the national media.

Nothing has changed and it will be a long time before it does.

You know what Abingdon, you are totally correct - I couldn't agree more with you.

The change that will happen in this new era just might well be slow and painful, but it will be good for us all.

I think Harlem gets a bad reputation because of the stories that come from there - I bet Harlem's is quite a decent community in retrospect.

With Obama in the White House, it can only strengthen the cause for civil rights and future generations of children will grow up to be taught how to respect the work mixed race people can do for society and the wider world if they put their minds to it.

As to whether things will change, let's just wait and find out first before we pass judgement on a Presidency on Day One, Hour Six.

Have you ever been to america? Areas of New York are very scary having relatives over there and spending about 10 weeks there once you undersatnd that there is a underlying large problem in the majority of america either with white, black and mexicans when it comes to mixing diversities and being a community, generally over america people dont mix that freely like in the uk

The quote on Harlem was from a witness account, a guy who i was on a course with today was in new york not long ago and mistakenly got on the wrong bus, as the bus got around the harlem area the driver told him he could go no further on his bus as he wasn't driving through harlem with a white man on his bus!!

Thats change for you eh!!

And New York is one of the most diverse cities in the world....

thts exactly what I said he is the correct and chosen choice for the powers that be, to percieve that america is changing, nothing will change americas policy on the middle east, iraq etc wil still be the same just becasue someone else is saying different (Obama) he has his bosses and people with the money and real power tell him which hoops to jump through

I've been to Harlem. I, er, didn't stay long.

Honestly though PoK, I really hope you read about things before assuming the most liberal of spoon-fed views. You're either a wind-up merchant or just believe anything the Guardian tells you.

And trust me, I'm very left-wing. Still a realist, though.

Now listen up! No one can accuse me of being liberal or politically correct but................

What this fella brings to the table is positiveness, optimism and confidence. Thats not a bad start when confronted with a financial crisis thats based on a lack of exactly those things. He might be a half chat but he's probably the best hope we've got at the moment.

What this fella brings to the table is positiveness, optimism and confidence. Thats not a bad start when confronted with a financial crisis thats based on a lack of exactly those things. He might be a half chat but he's probably the best hope we've got at the moment.

Thank fook for that, I thought I was the only one on here who thought that he was a sign of something that could be described as 'hope' for us, in this current uncertain climate.

Honestly though PoK, I really hope you read about things before assuming the most liberal of spoon-fed views. You're either a wind-up merchant or just believe anything the Guardian tells you.

And trust me, I'm very left-wing. Still a realist, though.

I don't read the Guardian and I'm not a wind-up merchant.

I'm an optimist and proud of it.

Trust me, you don't get too far in life without taking a bit of realism on board.
