Has anyone ever managed to fix a washing machine themselves?

Ours stopped spinning so I suspected it was that the belt had snapped/come off.

I managed to get part of the back of the machine off and sure enough the belt had come off. Can I heck get the bastard thing back on!! The casing of the washing machine must have to come off to sort the belt out but cant see how to remove it.

has anyone else ever managed it? Ive cut my arms the shreds and dont really want to have to fork out for a repair blokey.

Is that Snell bloke on raby rd ok?

There will be a tensioner somewhere. Undo that put the belt on then tension it back up

yes it can be a bugger
normally the motor is spring loaded to tension the belt
get the top part of the belt on the pulley and then concentrate on the motor end

i would say the reverse, its like puttin a chain back on a bike, put the belt on the motor then stretch around the wheel of the tub, as u turn the tub ...

hey presto....

but why did it come off in the first place?

normally it is easier to get to the motor though hence my logic

mind the machine could be 30 years old

now the reasons for it coming off can be complex, are the bearings either in the drum or the motor, to use the technical term F**ked, ?

yes but that don't stop u putting the belt on, of course some mobels, such as the eletrolux 365, or the 365b, do neeed the motor mounting bolts slackening, but even those can be squeezed!
zanussi was a good one but never touch an electra, they where a hybrid of the creda, both naff, hoover where simple and always easy to obtain spares, althought the motor brushes where a pain , not as much as the hotpoint....

Cheers for the replies. It is a hotpoint machine btw. I suspect our lass will have overloaded the bugger again causing the belt to come loose.

I have given up trying to do it. According the sites on the net, its best to put the belf over motor first then gradually wind it round larger pulley like a bike chain. Still doesnt work like as I can get enough purchase on the belt due to innaccesibility.

cheers anyway

bottom mounted, can access motor but cant get arms behind the drum to feed belt onto larger wheel.
