Might have a look at that, if I can stay awake long enough.

Anyone see the Neil Young documentary on Friday?
I think many of his songs are phenomenal....but you just can't warm to Neil, can you? At least, not to his extreme egoism

I am not sure if this is a new TV channel but it is new to me as I found it last night, Rock On TV Sky channel 290, last night had some great programs on Yes & Rick Wakeman.

It maybe of interest to Mutt & Groovy they are doing a profile of Madness amongst others this month.

You couldn't warm to him if you were cremated with him.... an high opinion of his own genius.

Watched this last night, excellent programme, this man did have talent.

In light of the forthcoming Remembrance Day, this was a good song to end with.

The Remembrance

Words & Music: Jake Thackray

Remember the bands and the grand parades,
The flags, the banners, the fine cockades,
And how we all looked up to see the King upon the balcony:
Who told us we were young and brave,
We'd never become the foreigner's slave -
If the foreigner comes off best, he said,
You'll be better off dead . . .
This was a couple of weeks before we got killed in the war.

Remember the drums and the trumpets played
When we set sail on the great crusade,
And how we all looked up to see the clergyman on the quay:
Who told us we were grand and good
To fight for God, as good men should -
If the enemy comes off best, he said,
You'll be better off dead . . .
And this was a couple of days before we got killed in the war.

Remember the night before the raid
When the guns began the cannonade,
And how we all looked up to see the captain of the company:
Who told us we were bold and strong,
Let fame and glory spur us on -
If the Enemy comes off best, he said,
You'll be better off dead . . .
This was a couple of hours before we got killed in the war.

Remember the shock of the ambuscade,
Remember the terrible fusillade,
And how we all looked up to see the curious face of the enemy:
Who was young, and shabby, and seemed to be
About as foreign as you or me -
I never did catch what the poor sod said
When he made sure we were dead . . .
This was a couple of shakes before we got killed in the war.

Did they make any mention of his George Brassens influences?

Footnote to PoK: I expect you to read up on George Brassens after reading this!

He was featured, with comment from the chap who introduced Jake to him. Seems that there was a mutual appreciation of each others talents. They also mentioned that pretty much the whole of France went into mourning, when Brassens died in the early eighties.

As our kid pointed out to me, no-one else has ever began a song with the line 'I love a good bum on a woman, it makes my day......' I never tire of that song.  clappp

They're looking through the bundles of your rare magazines oh Sister Josaphine

What a bloody funny nun you are.

Or something like that. I used to know all the words years ago.

Sadly we don't make "em like Jake anymore.

One cannot generalise from a single case.

You'd know that if you'd not wasted your youth in such a dissolute and dubious way, falling around drunk in alleyways, allowing your brother to lock people in garages and so on and so forth

Always go with your first impressions.

It was the coal house. It wouldnt've been so bad but if he'd said Lobby's Dads locked him out me mam would've made him a bed up. But no he went for the coal house option.
