This the oldest programme l know off from Pools- Feb 12th 1910. Has anyone got any old programmes, documents pre 1960?

I was looking at the pools official site and l see they are asking for old items. But since we had a lovers tiff over my autograph collecting & dont talk any more :roll:

the thing is, it seemed every team played 2-3-5!!!

No wonder games ended up 7-5 and stuff.

I am certain when we played wrexham a few years ago and got biffed 6-4 at the end of the game we only had like Brackstone and Nelson at the back.

That's true, but it was effectively 5 defence against 5 forwards. Midfield hadn't been invented then.

In those days they used to have a Centre forward, who was flanked by an Inside Right and an Inside Left with a Right and Left Winger (also called Outside Right and Outside Left) as well, which can be interpreted as having five up front.

They also had Half Backs which we would now call the midfield I suppose. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outside_Left
