Does anyone know the going rate for paper rounds?
The local newsagent is offering £4 a day....which covers calling at the shop to pick up the papers, sorting them out and then delivering em, considerably more than an hour.
Have to applaud the bairn's attempt to generate income, but isn't that slave labour?

I got 10 bob a week for my first paper round. That's less than 10p a day.

I remember getting £2.50 a week.

£4 a day, is this only one shift or two? (mornings and nights)

Either way it is exploitation and it always way but at least the kid will get the idea of having to earn a living.

That's no use...it's a canny while since you two were young enough for paper rounds.

(It's one shift a day, so things could be worse)

Well our newsagent was charging us 25p for every delivery of the Mail. The Mail only costs 40p which is one of the reasons we have cancelled.

So if the newsagents are only giving paper lads £4 a day they are making a decent profit...

when i was 13/14, 10 years ago, i used to get a pound a day.

Best way of finding out if it's good or not is ring the mail and ask for direct delivery, you can get paper rounds direct from the mail, so you can see how much the mail will pay and how it compares to newsagent, bobs your uncle.

I think £4 a round is good me like.

The Champ has just packed in his paperound of 2½ years, hail, rain and shine at Sherburn Hill £10/week, and when he was unavailable due to other activities, a certain one man and his greyhound stepped into the breech!

No it isn't slave labour, it's a paper round not a shift down a coal mine

Well, £4 is beginning to look quite good in comparison with some.

(I won't comment on the logic of Talbot's statement; I know he was only trying to help  )

There wasn't any logic involved, it was a mere statement of fact

It was nothing to do with the thread, though but. We all know that paper rounds and coal-mining aren't REALLY slave labour. :coool:

By the way, I was down in Brum the other day.... was quite impressed with the bits we saw. Nothing like its reputation, is it?
