It used to be a good pub, but not for a long time.

My sister used to live in one of the row of houses next to the Sun.

She's moved upmarket now, to Clavering.

Every building of character is slowly being removed, only planners could turn an historic area like the headland into a fooking glorified council estate in the space of sixty years...give it ten years...St Hildas will be a Kebab shop with a giant elephants foot kebab rortating on top of the church tower.

Sad, but very true Snowy. When you look back at those old pictures of the Headland it looked like a bustling little community with an atmosphere of its own. It would have been a great tourist attraction if it had been kept how it was.

Now you come to mention it, they do look a bit cross-eyed and lantern-jawed in those old pictures...

I've always thought the Headland to be a dump..................is it actually getting worse? I wouldn't have thought that possible.
That footbridge they're on about building needs to have guards on it, we don't want the buggers getting loose!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He won't be the only one that's wrong. I don't live in South Kensington.
I don't see why where someone lives precludes him/her from having an opinion on the headland.
It is a dump............simple as. It isn't the only dump I've ever seen, but yeah, it is a dump.

Iknow you don't live in South Kensington  but if you'd read it you'd see I said that it was spoilt by shit for brains planners...in parts. IT ALSO HAS IT'S NICE PARTS, the Headland is a good location and there are good parts...it has a rather more interesting vista than some God foresaken village in Yorkshire

Snowy, you have an opinion on the headland and so have I.The thread has nothing to do with either South Kensington or any of Yorkshire's villages. Bringing in other places doesn't stop the headland being a dump.
Try and stick to the point.................just for once.

Oh come on - who the hell is / was ever gonna come to Hartlepool to go to the headland? And if it was a tourist attraction (not that it wver would or could be) - people would be complaining about the amount of tourists.

Lets get back to the real world - the headland is a bit shit just like thousends of other places.....

I fairly often go over to Old Hartlepool......it's one of my favourite bits of the coast anywhere in England. True there are grotty bits, around the shopping area, so, erm, you don't go to those bits, eh?

Anyway, better say no more. Will arouse the wrath of Mr Gremmlin if I encourage people to go and take a better look...he likes his peace and quiet!

Plenty of Headland bashing going on in this thread

Cant say it's any worse than some other parts of the town we could list (waits for the backlash!)

I await a 'warm' welcome to the board  & more importantly await a goalfest this afty.

if anybody says they wouldn't want one of those Victorian four storey houses looking over the Town Wall, they are liars.
Let's face it, a house in Dykey or the Manor is so much more des res, eh?

I'm with the pro headland side here. I go back to Hartlepool and make a beeline for the Headland everytime to see if it's being looked after. (If anyone says as long as you don't make a beeline for the Vic they can bugger off but thats another story). Last time I was there I met a bloke and his wife wandering round doing exactly the same. (I knew she wasn't from Hartlepool cos she was sat doing the cryptic crossword in the Telegraph). A bout of nostalgia broke out including the memories of thrashing of Bolton by Pools years ago...... was it 10-1.....was it Bolton.

And yes those big houses with painted walls would do for me only rivalled by those houses with the big window seats on the front at Saltburn-by-the-Sea.
