Bought a i-pod thingy the other day (first one, I'm dead hi-tec!) and am in the process of downloading many hundreds of cds to put on it. But some of them says it cannot find the album artwork to download.

Is it trying to read the artwork from the cd whilst it is in the cd drive downloading onto the machine or does it look it up on tinterweb?

Anybody got any clues as to how to sort this?

it gets them from the web, for the missing ones i go to google image search, find the artwork, save it then drag & drop it into the bottom left corner window in itunes while the song is selected. That should solve your problem

I'll try that, cheers.

Next question, when I've downloaded all my cds onto itunes can I then just copy them all to an external hard drive as a back up or do I have to download them all individually again?

just go to the place where it ripped them to (usually your "my music" folder) and just copy them over to the external drive

Which ipod you get?

It's ripping them to my music folder? I thought it was just taking them straight into itunes? Shows how much I know!

I bought a 32gb ipod touchy thingy so I can get tinternet on it. Hopefully they're ok?

yeah it puts them in a folder and itunes reads them from there

I have the 16gb, i quite like it. If you wanna get a bit technical you can jailbreak (hack) it and get a whole host of other applications on there.

Once they're in iTunes, just go to 'file' 'get artwork' and it'll read the whole library and download the cover art.

Is it essential like??

Poser.....

Actually it's pretty funny, I've had some absolute shockers in my time. The auto-find function on iTunes comes with an iTunes account. Most of the time it may not find them because you have a capital letter in the wrong place, or a missing piece of punctuation.

I have a couple of pictures to illustrate the wrong album covers I've been assigned. ADG somehow landed himself a record deal for the first (which was meant to be Love by The Cult) and the second was, well... meant to be for a Bond themes album. Which is bad enough in itself. Still, iTunes topped it:
