I saw Ocean Colour Scene at Rock City supporting Pop Will Eat Itself in about 1991. They were a 'baggy' band then but he couldn't half sing. They got signed, disappeared for about four years and came back as Welleresque Dadrock!!

I hate it when bands do that. See also Snow Patrol, who had a not-shiit line in spiky guitar pop then buggered off and came back with the turgid sub-Coldplay* bollocks they play now.

* if that is indeed possible

Yeah, Snow Patrol weren't half bad when they were trying to be Sebadoh rather than Coldplay. I've seen OCS once when I was about 18. I was a fan in my school years but I thought they were boring as fuck tbh.

I saw OCS at the Hard Rock in London last month, quality gig. Only about 100 or so there and they were great!

Yup your dead right.

On the Leyline is good too.

The acoustic album Live at the Jam House is a cracker, if you can get it.

I hate it when bands do that.

I think the band who set the standards for that kind of behaviour was Chicago Transit Authority back in the early '70s. Overnight they went from raunchy brass-assisted rock to wimpish music with soppy lyrics (in the shape of "If you leave me now") and never came back.
