Ince's assistant Ray Mathias believes Ince's experience of starting from the bottom will serve him well in the future.

"Bill Shankly started at Hartlepool and Brian Clough started lower down as well. You've got to start somewhere," said the former Wigan and Tranmere manager.

He wants to get his facts right - Shanks started his managerial career at Carlisle and as we all know (or should know) Cloughy started as a manager at the greatest club on the planet...

Mind you - I think he is right about Ince. I was impressed with what he did at Macclesfield - not many people would have taken on a job like that (they looked doomed when he took the job) but he did and he turned them round. Boro could do a lot worse than pick him as their manager...

Will never forget (was it really only last season) when we came from behind to beat Macclesfield and at the end of the game Ince shook the hand of every player on the pitch. Nice touch. clappp

He's wrong in the detail but the principal is dead right. Ince will become a top manager and much better than the Southgates and Pearces of this world.

Dennis Wise started at Millwall admittedly but he did well at Swindon and Leeds. I don't like either him or Ince but they've proved they can manage at this level and should get their chance at a bigger club.
What other job could you walk straight into a top management job with no experience?
