If they'd sorted out what they had to do about getting visas at the right time in the right place they would've been okay, especially as she's Canadian, the most inoffensive and popular nation in the world. No footy teams, terrible rugby and cricket players with no notable religious foibles. Who wouldn't love 'em?

At the end of the day (as Derek Hatton said more than once) you've got to take responsibility for your own affairs and if you cock it up, don't blame anyone else, sort it out!

Look, this is all a storm in a teacup. The woman cocked her application up and it got rejected, as cocked-up applications usually tend to do. Now it's sorted. There's no more to see. Move on please.

But in the meantime that has elapsed, don't expect the tabloids to have missed the opportunity to raise a hue and cry.

I have very close family who have been the victim of this kind of press sensationalism and even harassment, and it ended up causing them untold heartbreak. So excuse me if every time I see people posting this kind of ***S H I T*** and preaching indignation I take it with an enormous does of skepticism.

Well there's a few holes in the story. The British Embassy is run by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Home Office have little to do with it at this stage and the Army even less.

Fact is, she can't convert her visa within the UK and has to do it from her country of origin, i.e. Canada, unless she already had temporary citizenship, for the normal two year period, which she patently didn't, but could have had very easily, and probably travelled on a visitor visa, or in Canada's case, a visa waiver.

She didn't read the rules and now, she has to leave the country every six months.

Like any other tourist.

She should have been an asylum seeker from the backend of beyond, then she would have been allowed to stay, not a wife of a serving soldier or a Gurkha soldier who have fought for this country
