Aye, good to see a proper team get back. Prefer the likes of them, Workington, Barrow and Halifax rather than these plastic teams like R&D or Kidderminister.

i seem to remember a team having a fourteen point lead in a few seasons back and not winning the title on the last day

Agreed. They've done especially well as they've had to work their way through quite a few leagues.

Similarly I'd like to see AFC Wimbledon get back to at least the Conference and maybe the 4th division cos of the way their club was taken off them.

Are they the 'proper' Aldershot or are they like the Boro who reformed in 1988 and so many other teams who have folded, then risen from the ashes.
Do they still play at the Recreation ground? Seen a couple of dire games there when Pools really were sh!te

Oh yes they still play in their weird three sided ground with one of the stands doubling as the railway station.

But no they aren't any more the original Aldershot FC that Accrington are the original Stanley. For a start the originals weren't called Aldershot Town like this lot.

But the acid test for me is do they still have the same supporters as the original club. If so I'll accept them as being the same.

Aldershot away 1991 ( won 5-1 ) the game that started the run that gained us our second promotion. A tuesday night game only 50 away supporters, Aldershot were sinking fast financially and didnt have long left.

Happy memories.

Aye, I remember that one Ronnie, I was working down that neck of the woods at the time and managed to get another lucrative job just by chatting to someone behind the goal.
Didn't Paul Dalton hit a hat trick? ven when we were 4 - 1 up it still looked like they might come back into, Stange game as I remember!

I saw Bobby Charlton playing for Preston North End against Aldershot shortly before their demise at that ground as well.

Haven't been back since like, but well done on the comeback. clappp clappp

Ronnie, hmmmmmmm if it's the Ronnie I know, I was with him that night and yes i'm sure dalts did get a hat-trick.

Maybe an unusual ground with only 3 sides but it has a decent sized bank of covered terracing behind one goal where both home and away fans stand. You could have 20 or 2,000 away fans but still generate a great atmosphere. I for one hope they get back in the league, far better than going to bournemouth, donny, darlo, shrewsbury, scunny etc etc
