It not about him being a vital player but a part player when needed who can use his experience. It's much more to do with his experience as a link between D.S. and the football club / supporters etc. And the experience he can pass onto to players when needed. He can pass on his vast experiences in the dressing room. He can give players advice in training. He can put a arm around the youngsters and guide them into being good professionals in and outside the club. Just like D.S. said he is gold dust.
