Anybody care to give us a report on today's proceedings. What sort of side did Forest put out.

Forest team seemed to be purely u23s, quick and very good technically.

Our high intense, aggressive press didn't work so good as the Forest kids were clever and threw themselves on the floor, they had well over 20 free kicks.

Mani D and Parkes never played at all, no injury issue I don't think, as they warmed up and were stripped and ready, it was just a bit pointless playing them.

Forest kids cut us open a few times with their technical ability, we won't be playing any teams like that in NL. From what I can tell their players go out on loan to league one clubs.

Charman played up front in place of Mani D and did reasonably well, big, strong and good at holding ball up.

Not the type of game to read too much into.

There appeared to be no Mancini in the stands, just Sloggett.

Agree with Bosh  Ist half Pools the better team second half Forest. Not a game to read much into mainly a run out for the youngsters.

Alex Mighten scored twice today, he's 22 and played over a hundred games for Forest first team, Sheff Wed and Port Vale.

They had a few others of similar standard.

Best team we played this preseason.

I really like the look of Aungiers this lad needs a long term contract before someone pinches him.

Yep, mentioned that last week. Sarll obviously sees a lot of potential in the lad, so will others.

agree as at the moment somebody might risk picking him up because of the small cost involved.

If he is attracting attention there is no doubt somebody will take a chance.
Pools have to persuade him to stay, at least for the time being.
There is another problem though that rarely comes to light and that is who is his biggest influence. Maybe if he or his biggest influence get wind of solid interest, and they will, the advice will be don't sign for Pools yet as so and so are interested, wait and see if that interest becomes official.
The best result for us would be him agreeing a contract with us, performing in a way that obviously states he is a player, and attracting serious bids and knock on clauses from the big boys. We all win then.
But it is not just easy to offer a contract and get him tied down, especially if his head is turning or already turned. There are other scenarios as well as we all know.

in some ways it could be better for him to sign a decent contract with us. if he did so a new club might think more of the lad as they have a better chance of keeping him and making money if he improves than one who,d walk away for a better offer as quickly as possible.

Joe Aungiers did okay yesterday, showed glimpses but overall couldn't impact the game too much as the majority of the opposition were 3-4 years older than him.

It's early days for him yet but there is potential there, as is the same for Darcy, Storey, Steel, Stephenson and then the other youth team players.

If Aungiers leaves we would still get a fee, he is protected as he is part of our academy. NL teams don't have academies and the same protection for young players as EFL clubs but we do, for two years after our relegstion, which includes Joe Aungiers.

Any fee depends on all sorts of things, I really hope Joe and all the other young lads get a chance this season, whether it's from the bench or in cup competitions, as it's a legitimate way to becoming sustainable long term.

I don’t know exactly how old this lad is but don’t you have to be a certain age before a club can pin you down with a contract?

Assessment of pre season is we struggle with this pressing module when the quality of opposition goes up a notch.

The Mighty Scarborough n Forest Z.

Major pressure on MannyD n rest of front line to compensate the defensive part of our team.
Especially with these tough opening fixtures.

Lets get Lucky.

Forest Z????
Take a look at the player profiles and there's players with 50 Championship games, NI full internationals, PL2 regulars, most of that side will go on to have long careers at higher level than NL. So it's fair to say they take the quality up a fair number of notches I'd say.
Another friendly at the end of the day and we're about to see what Sarll and his merry men can do when it matters.
If we'd thrashed them some would say ah but it was only Forest kids.

Correct, in line with UK employment law.

Here is a link to the twitter post of the current academy players who signed as part of the academy, formerly known as YTS or basically an apprenticeship.

These players are employed by HUFC and contracted to the club.

https://x.com/Official_HUFC/status/1678739802265382912

In short, Joe Aungiers is contracted to the club until the end of the season. No panic for us to get him to sign a contract when he is already signed.

The next question is when to offer contracts to these lads to avoid another club taking them at the end of the season, but they would need to pay a fee. The fee would need to be agreed by each club or it would be determined by a tribunal.

Shows how far out of reach the top end of football is becoming when b teams can come and wipe the floor with you. Not that many moons ago we were giving Forest pretty decent games.

To be fair they'd probably tonk most if not every NL team.
No God given right for any club to be in any given league though. Leeds won a top division title and bought just about all of the English talent around then ended up in the 3rd tier. Bournemouth went the other way as examples.
Need the right people at any club and a slice of luck. We were a ball hair away from Championship last time everything aligned for us. Could happen again but getting more and more difficult for lower league clubs.

Yes if sides have quality (most don’t) hopefully we are flexible in our approach, definitely concerned if we play relentless pressing on a team like Gateshead for example who could pick us apart

Sounds like Gateshead have put the fear of God into some of our supporters yet nobody's kicked a ball for real yet.

its getting near impossible as rotherham have proved in recent seasons with much higher gates than pools could even get by the yo yo div,1 to championship. best thing really clubs like pools can ever be is a decent league 1 club now with a good run in the three cups available.

Bit we were told nobody would go to them so we have nothing to fear this season. With our super new defence they will get their shock of their lives when they find out we can defend for more than 10 minutes without conceding.

Short memory when it suits though, didn't we keep a clean sheet against the fearsome Gateshrad last season at the Vic with only 10 men for over an hour? In fact didnt ww beat them, my recollection from last season was that we both took 3 points from the 2 matches.

Well short memories or not they got in the play offs and won a trophy on 800 to 10000 crowds while we have supporters defending a club that couldnt compete with that on 4500 to 5000 crowds.

Surely though the uear of no excuses we will wipe the floor with them this year, afterall i cant see anybody signing for them this season.

Well does that not make you think they are well backed by somebody, Otherwise surely it would be too difficult to achieve.

No we won 2-1 with a last minute goal after being battered for most of the game
