You obviously know what you are talking about pal

10 Gary Liddle 364 21 DF, MF 2006–2012, 2019–20, 2020–2022

Thinking about this, being doing my head in how people say he's excellent.
Why is it then, he has spent 5 years in the EFL and 5th year this year in National League with us?
While everyone else on that list, never got relegated to National League ever in the History of Hartlepool United, regardless of how bad we where in 50's, 60's 90's etc etc.
Granted Liddle played with us in the NL for a couple of seasons.

D'you not think there's a lot of truth in the old saying you win as a team and lose as a team? The side that got relegated out of the EFL the first time around had its guts ripped out by the financial carry-on behind the scenes and Dave Jones' horrendous mismanagement when he came in. Feaths wasn't the best or worst player in that side - in normal circumstances it would have been more than capable of keeping us up. Barron, Humphries and Sweeney have a relegation on their records too - a side that was in a play-off final one season and dropped out of League One the next. That should never have happened either.

Last season started with a pre-season tour without enough players to put a side out and went downhill from there. It's hard to say what was worse - the clowns Hartley signed or the complete has-beens Keith Curle brought in on short-term contracts. Feaths is a common denominator in two relegations but it's a big jump to hold him personally responsible for both!

Obviously not entirely responsible for our long suffering misfiring midfield, but as a senior player and captain not entirely blameless either.
Over the last 5 or 6 years I think he was out of contract 3 times and yet nobody signed him, he was out of football after last season because nobody signed him - says it all for me.
He'll get his testimonial and hopefully that'll be the last time he wears the shirt. For me he was decent but hasn't been good for a couple of seasons now, similar to Ritchie Humphreys, stayed a couple of seasons too long. Imo.

If Fevs n Cooke are offered these pay cut contracts to stay were they get right thru the summer to decide.
Then that tells me it's not a potential promotion budget KP has to work with.

Got to upgrade on these 2 for me.
The Solihull game was evidence that they are not worthy.

Cooke has been a different player since KP arrived, but to be most effective he needs more mobility and pace around him to do the donkey work - he didn't have that (Crawford) against Solihull with the Fev Wallace pairing.
For me we can only accommodate one of Cooke or Mancini in the team so I'd imagine Cooke (reputedly a high earner) will be allowed to go.
I can't see us leaving contracts on the table for very long over the coming season.

At the end of the season Kev needs to count how many points we lost against the four relegated clubs, add them to our total and see where we could have finished if we could put weak teams to the sword!
It has been a serious failing of late that we struggle against poor sides and needs to be put right if a next season bid for promotion is to be achieved.

It's true we've been rank bad in games against the current bottom 4 this season - only 5 points taken from a possible 21!

Those 16 dropped points would put us up near the top of the league!

If we aspire to regain EFL status, I do not think that it is asking too much for the team to collect a bagful of points against teams heading for NLN/NLS.

thats why managers of top teams say there is no easy games. sides raise their game when they play good sides but some like pools go the opposite way when they play those near the bottom. they seem to lose all fight and they are their for the taking. if the only matched these sides in effort we might have got more points out of them.

Anutha interesting Stat.
We lost the most games in the top 20.
17 games.
Half of them draws would of made a major difference.
If maybes count for nothing though.

We got to take advantage of this poor division next season.
Hopefully.
UTP.

Never mind the top half. Only two teams in the bottom half have lost more games than us (Woking and Dorking) and only two other teams have lost the same number of games as us, Kiddiminster and Ebbsfleet. This is why scraping into the play offs is a pretty remote possibility in my view. But hey, I am desperate to be proved wrong.

No chance of playoffs IMO, happy to be mid table after the position we were in when Askey left.

2 tough games in the space of a week - glad we didnt have a tuesday game to contend with this week !

Barnet again are on a wobble ! But i just cant see us beating them even at Home ! ... if we play that same team we did against Solihull it will be another huff and puff defeat with us maybe getting a goal - Barnet appear to be the better team and even did us over when we had a decent team at the start of the season !

hopefully we see a RB come in, in the same guise as Parkes and Waterfall. That really would be a KP master stroke.
Senior, Hendrie and Dolan all out the door with the mystery man training with us no more ? who knows ?
Surely we will see another player come into the side as again we dont have anyone off the bench to make an impact. Plus need another attacker for me. Grey is doing brilliant job but still feel Mani D needs a natural strike partner up there with him.

same here and would be happy finishing where we are now. its still a couple of places higher than the one i predicted before a ball was kicked. KP biggest need now is to start his wish list for next season with more proper players brought in quickly once the season ends.

Don't think we'll make play offs but think we'll be a tad higher than now come the end of the season. Most of our games now are against teams below us and we do look to be a better team under KP. Games in hand for those around us are running out, really good set of results for us last night in that respect.
Hopefully a strong finish, a manager in place who knows who he will want to keep / let go, the end of a lot of players contracts, better recruitment, and a good pre season will have us ready for a real cracking at it next season.

yes, and being infront of the queue rather than the back of it in everything will help. lots of our business over the last few seasons give fuel to those who say pools only sign whats left.

Can,t believe i,m saying this, But i believe the POffs this season would damage our progress.
Consolidate and prepare for a realistic challenge next season.

winning them would be. think we have players in the squad at the moment who are up to the level we are playing but not above it. That includes the new lads as well as the crawfords, fergusons, cookes, dixon and even the vastly improved joe grey. Manny D isn,t getting any younger either and mancini has not played many games in the league and we didn,t really have to fight others off to sign him. its not going to be easy for dan dodds either getting fully up to speed by his september only comeback and the rest of the old guard you can keep.

With our track record against teams facing the drop, games against teams below us are not guaranteed to produce points. This is one of KP's maim problems to solve if we are to mount a serious push for promotion in 2024/25.

IMO teams at the bottom are desperate for points and simply 'want it more' than we have this season.
We need a squad of players who want promotion as much as we supporters do!
