Just caught a comment on the news re Rochdale, where someone mentioned there are 24,000 postal votes in the town.
Surely postal votes should only be given on production of a medical certificate or working away.

I do postal vote in General and Local elections, delivered to my house, fill it out put it in the envelope and post it into the town hall office. As I can't guarantee that I'm going to make the polling station on the day, due to my job signing on and off times and reliability of the Elizabeth Line out of Central London.

Anybody can apply for a postal vote. I suppose it's to encourage those who can't be arsed to go down to the polling station and vote on the day.

Postal voting encourages better turnouts in both local and general elections which is a good thing.

It's also a good thing when these happen, in say, the winter months, with poor weather and fewer hours of light.

Me and the wife have used them for a few years now, more so when the voting station is not a decent walk away and you need to drive there.

It’s also handy for harvesting votes for the politically savvy.

I also vote in person, mainly due to the fact that my polling station is closer to my house than the post box is :)

totally agree. makes you wonder who these 24,000 are and without any proof i,d guess the names are more likely to be ahmed than smith. then there is no guarentee that the person who has one of these votes is the person using it.

Funny how religions who stick to the basic laws of their religion and accommodate no one because of changes in society remain the strongest supported.
Compare that to the Church of England’s wishy washy woke bores, who embrace everything new or deranged.

again its another case of those at the top being completely different to those who you actually meet in the C of E including parishoners and local vicars and curates. not a church goer or religeous but meet both these on a thursday lunch club operated by the local church. everyone from the female vicar downwards seem to think and speak like we do on here.

A survey of church attendances on Sundays indicate a steep decline, but the wafflers at the top are the face of the church….. so that’s the image the public get.

they have been in decline for a number of years now and becoming a place for pensioners to top up their savings card just in case an after life exists. those wafflers are not exactly getting the numbers up by their opinions on things which is possibly due to having a minority opinion and not the popular one on any subject.
