By the way, until last night I didn't even know we had a Darlington Street in Hartlepool

That used to be part of my walking route to school every day from around the back of the Palladium in Commercial Street up to Henrys. Was that really 40 years ago?

I was safe as long as I remembered not to walk up Broadfield Road.

you were probably too young to remember the battle of the Headland Moor
our kid in his wisdom decided he would have a spout off at a few Henrys pupils the older type as some of them were up to eighteen
and he had a punch up with a couple
our kid was only little but a little bulldog who would never let go
anyway the upshot was that any one who wanted to join in had to be in Northgate after school
poor buggers, the Henrys kids walking to the train did not know what hit them
skirmishes all over the place
then the day of reckoning
next morning Chuddy Kay the head who was only about eight foot tall and twenty stone
decided to cane the whole school
that meant everyone six of the best, class at a time was marched out and lined up and whacked
some of them bubbling before being caned as they claimed to be "i was not there sir' even kids who were not at school that day got punished you had to feel sorry for some of the younger kids
one good thing about corporal punishment the battle of the Moor never had a repeat well not in my time anyway

However there are several serial killers and psychopaths out there, revisiting 'revenge of Chuddy' on a daily basis......

There are two legalised sadists still living in Hartlepool, who, if I ever encounter them, will feel the wrath of a grown man as against the child that they abused.
