The huge metal frame inside the Wesley was in situ but I’d like to know what’s burning as there’s only the bare brick walls and said frame.
There’s some eyesores in town that would be a blessing if they burnt down, but not the Wesley. sadx

Could be scaffolding inside or they are trying to make out it will be cheaper to demolish it now. Why did they not just retain the frontage as the other 3 walls external are just plain brick ?

No the inside is a substantial H beam girder construction even the roof trusses are par of the steel structure, I’d imagine the walls while substantial are merely decorative as regards the buildings structure.
It looks bad, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s not as bad as it looks…..something odd though as this is the second incident within weeks.

Being a bit of a "fire and brimstone" gadgie, there is a certain irony to how often the place named after him gets torched.

Why not the Odeon, Engineers, and Shopping centre market hall?
Where is all these £25 millions we were supposed to get? with all projects way behind any promised schedule (Rail station/Leisure centre etc etc)
Its all bullshit and lies.

possibly the most pointless waste of money is throwing money at a railway station unless the place is falling down. there are big plans for my local station as its old fashioned looking but serves its purpose well. its not going to get me to use the train because its all swanky up to date building.

The train service is a joke, pity they can’t run the Metro from Newcastle to Redcar….open up the North East coast completely.

The station was due to open in June for the tall ships then it was October and now Xmas (ish) according to the Railtrack people. The leisure centre has been promised for years but everything is delayed.
The planners need to create a vibrant area in the town and take out excess retail/other buildings.
The jam is spread so thin everything is on life support waiting for the day the high street will be vibrant again which of course it wont.
Some tough decisions need to be made and if the Wesley goes, so be it, the worst scenario is the developers now drop out and the eyesore remains.
We have plenty of good old listed buildings in the town and in order to protect the majority a few may have to be sacrificed.
Lets get the wrecking ball out.
Rant over

people living back in town centres again and not on the outskirts all coming in. the days of the highstreet are history now like town centre living was back in the 100 plus years that high streets were the thing.

It’s like the hanging gardens of Babylon driving south into town.

Need an explanation.
Why when these arsonists go before the bench, They have the same (or more rights) than the rest of us.

Never ever been able to find an answer.

"Vibe" in Peterlee - a solid contender for the sleaziest night-club on the planet award - spontaneously combusted last night.

The muskers still had it cornered off with tape when I went past it on the bus this afternoon, and apparently a gadgie was arrested today.

He's firestarter, twisted firestarter wowowowowoooh

I remember the Senate nightclub in Peterlee in the early 80's, that must've been a contender for one of the roughest nightclubs in the North East award in it's prime.

Agree 100%.

I only ever went in there once, and that was enough - and that's from a bloke who happily frequented Foxys and Caspers when I moved back to Hartlepool in 1984.
