Think there is a decent player in there physically he seems good and can carry the ball….but…

Fuck me his position play is appalling and he’s not fast enough to compensate, the amount of space between him
And Ferguson was ridiculous and arguably cost us both goals (you can also
Play the piss poor clearance attempts)

Expect he will learn and get better but there will be a price for us as he learns on the job
If I was the dag scout I would
Be explaining exactly where to target us

Well he made the 1st goal with a superb through ball. He did a lot of good things including running into forward positions like Dodds was good at and moving the team forward. Yes he is a little nieve but got to remember it's his first start. Overall considering his age and lack of experience at this level he did a decent job. In a ideal world he needs wrapping up in cotton wool but I agree there is a player there but hopefully the experienced players will guide him well. A friend of mine is a Scarborough fan and keeps ringing me asking why Burton is not even getting close to the bench on most occasions. He knows a player when he sees one having once scouted for a number of top clubs. I trust his judgement and believe this lad like Doddsey will be a top player for Pools.

Come on, the lad made his debut and wasn’t afraid to put himself about but his willingness more than compensated for his admitted ability to charge up the pitch, but Askey will no doubt enlighten him on what’s expected, he stood out as a character and the pass he slipped through to Finney was a peach, as was the goal.
Definitely one to persist with and probably knackered after the ground he covered in his first competitive match.

He'll get better.

If not we won't notice any difference.

they targitted him first half and was responsible for our goal and giving them one. second half when we were on top he looked better. the lad made his debut and ran himself to death. possibly he touched the ball more than any other pools player so never hid. we cry out for players who put a real shift in, but when we find a young lad who did it then some are too quick to get their knives out. what do fans want, fergie at CB and dolan taking oxygen after the warm up.

Good point above.

I rather see a young lad learning on the job, who came from a league below. Rather than a kid from Boro, Sunderland or Newcastle who everyone will think he will be quality for us as he's Championship trained with no experience.

At least Burton is our player and knows the league within reason.

How else is he going to learn.

too many fans rate a player before they see him because of who their previous club were. there will be loads of players from the southern clubs in our league who were once on the books of premier and championship teams from the same area who are worse than the ones signed from the lower part of the pyramid who missed out as youngsters.

No complaints about the shift Burton put in but it does make you wonder what has happened to Edon Pruti.

Left footed central defender, overlooked when JA was playing Fergie in a back three (madness) and now so far down the pecking order even Matty Dolan got on the subs bench ahead of him!

Looks like there might be some sort of disciplinary issue that isn't being talked about. We already know it's Askey's way or the highway at the Vic.

Maybe there's a clue here: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/a ... Pruti.html

Well it's not our Edon Pruti.
Must be his twin brother, because he plays for Hartlepool's Town

So plays Johnson, a Championship trained Defender, highly rated, plays for England, captain England U18. Should handle any league below him.

However he can't handle the National League and nowhere to be seen at the Vic tonight.

I'm sick and tired of these players thinking their quality. banghead

Should have started Burton, at least he has something to prove. :angry-screaming:

Can not disagree more he did OK tonight Ist game at men's football level. You should keep your opinion but just change the name from Johnson to Hendrie

Hendrie has been very poor since he joined, hasn’t done anything to suggest he is the answe unfortunately
2nd goal today was embarrassing and the space between the wing backs and left and right CBs is something that leaves us exposed game after
Game and is down to coaching/players not able to follow simple instructions

This. Wouldn't go so far as to say Johnson had a good game - wouldn't say that about anyone in tonight's team - but he did better than Hendrie, Seaman and Ferguson, 3 players with hundreds of games between them in men's football. Beck is a nightmare to play against and the young lad stuck to his task.

Both CBs had decent games imo, the problem is we have nothing down either flank to stop crosses coming in, an absolute delight for Beck who was pushing and pulling constantly without reprimand from the officials.
Bizarre team selection imo, why Hendrie as holding midfielder when Dolan is available? Why Grey in midfield when the kid on short term contract is available (we bemoan the loss of Mancini, yet this kid is the nearest thing we've got to a replacement from what he's shown in cameo appearances)? Why is Finney anywhere near this team?
Don't know where the Umerah from the start of last season has gone, or the Seaman from the start of this, neither replacement looks good enough for even Sunday league.

Our midfield last night was like the tide washing against the breakwater, plenty of effort but no impact of any consequence. Basically like the Grand Old Duke of York they marched up the ‘hill’ and marched down again, up and down the pitch and going nowhere of any consequence…… why take three or four passes when with a defence like that one in the middle would have scuppered their system, we played into their hands with no leader in midfield, more of a committee of the puzzled, Dolan’s appearance made a difference, time to give him a chance, better that than sticking with what we’ve got out there.

We have a small squad, of that there is no doubt but the squad is made smaller by freezing players out. Dolan did a decent job last night in the short time he was on, as did the attacking midfielder on a month's loan.
Looks like Hastie and Patterson have been despatched to the freezer.
Injuries are also ravaging the squad and I'm afraid we have to face the reality that we need at least ten more players capable of handling this league to get us anywhere near where we want to be. Whether Raj is prepared to change his prudent nature and throw a bundle of cash at the squad remains to be seen but I doubt he will.
I haven't included the confetti tag being associated with this season's surge in yellow cards.
Askey said recently that this period is the hardest he has experienced in his football career. Well my son I think it's about to become harder.

Your probobly right saying we need 10 but crikey give us 2 decent central defenders a midfielder and a lad up front with pace and some fight and it would go a long way.
