So on a brief reading of this story it seems that accurate DNA evidence has seen him proved innocent, yet if (and it is an if) he gets any compensation then he may well lose a big chunk of it down to a 'board and lodging' fee!! This is a calculation made to see how much money he's saved in rent and TV licenses etc because he's been in prison. I mean WTF.

This is wrong on so many counts that I don't know where to start - but as a start, how about billing all of the many rightly convicted criminals board and lodge?

At present, found guilty/do porridge/come out/no charge.
At present, found guilty but proved wrongly convicted/falsely do porridge/come out/charge.

It’s outrageous. You have to wonder what utter feckwit thought it up.
Out of interest, ‘board and lodging’ was forced upon in him, he never requested it.

The DNA evidence to prove him innocent was available in 2005 and both the Police & the CCRB didn't want to look at it!

In general the justice system, be it the Police, CPS etc don't want to admit they have made a mistake.

I just wonder how many people are serving time for a crime they did not commit?

Have to laugh at that when my lads used to watch it they used to take the mick out of their obsession with welding and fabrication…..undercover boilermakers being pursued by quality standards inspector.
Also their use of more ammunition than the Battle of Britain but no one ever got as much as a graze on either side.

only a very small number in the proportions to those who get away with it. fact is if the majority who do get caught for most offences would not have been caught if they had stopped doing them earlier. does not make this right though in any way and its increasingly like april 1st when you now read news items.

Is the cost determined by the location in the uk?
If his "accommodation" is a London prison then the board and lodging would be about twice the cost of a prison elsewhere.
Was the food 5* or greasy spoon?

This is complicated.
