Was he right to have a go?

The pre-season friendlies against Newcastle United and AZ Alkmaar whetted our appetite but they are still nothing like the "real thing", however, the players did very well against both teams.A few more fans at the Alkmaar game would have helped as Alkmaar needed a large fee to come to play us and the Club lost £10,000. There will always be the argument on what price we should charge for friendlies but good opposition costs money and at £10 for a ticket the Club believed it would attract far more fans than those who turned up.

I'm more than certain that the difference between the fees we received for Adam Boyd, Tommy Butler and Jon Daly and the ones we paid for Richie Barker and Andy Monkhouse will more than compensate for the over-inflated, pre-season entrance prices.

How much did we make from the mags game with the turn out of plastic mags from the town that helped swell the crowd,or did they demand a big fee too. banghead

Mind only 4643 from the town turned out for our first home game along with 901 from Donny.

Why are Pools paying teams huge fees for pre season friendlies?

Maybe he was aware of the criticism of the prices and felt the need to justify them??

It's nearly allways been the case for friendlies with foreign sides that they request expenses.

i would imagine that it's the case for a lot of friendlies between english clubs but its more likley a split of the gate rather than a fee set before hand

Perhaps he should say: "We at IOR are funding your favourite club to the tune of 1/2 mil per year. How about you?"

And yes I'm led to believe the Mags picked us clean.

Ken needs to get into perspective who Alkmaar reserves are.

I looked on their website the day of the game and didn't know any of their players, many people will have been on holiday, many people don't give a sh*t about friendlies, many people have just shelled out a few hundred quid on a season ticket, many people will have been saving for their 20 quid for the Doncaster game.

If you've got a family, then you'd still be looking at the best part of £30 for the night out for a game against a team that aren't even that famous.

He might drive around in a posh car with a personalised reg but many people have other things they need to spend their money on and he needs to remember that before he starts bitching in the programme.

When someone explains to me that they lost 10,000 squids I don't see why I should feel offended. It's not as though we don't ever discuss Pools finances among us.
Or is it a case of "just keep coughing up and STFU"? or "you wanna improve the reserve team pitch for 100K that's your lookout?"

Christ on a bike, have you all got out of the scratcher the wrong side??

All he said was 'A few more fans would have helped.....'

So far he's:

a. Bitching.
b. Thick as shit.
c. A stupid bounder.
d. Over inflating prices.
e. Talking bollocks.

I question where the more excessive penmanship is emanating from.

Maybe people were skint after shelling out £40 quid to buy the latest shirt for the 3rd time in 12 months!

If you choose to spend 4 x admission price for the friendly and 2 x admission price for a league game on a shirt, knowing that it will prevent you going through the gate, then you are not only a bad judge of value, you probably wear your team-shirts as casual wear.

Which no-one over 15 should.

But yeah, we get the idea. You want it all and you want it free.

Right. :-o

OK.

But he still only said 'A few extra fans would have helped....' and doesn't deserve the vitriol you are heaping on him for that comment.

Maybe he should try to arrange frienlies against the Smoggies and the Mackem as well as the Mags. Their expenses wouldn't be too great and even if they picked us clean we wouldn't lose £10k.

I don't see what's odd about that. We complain among ourselves instead of complaining to IOR so why shouldn't they do the same?

I don't buy a programme even though I go to the match.

I read Ken's notes on tinterweb.

But obviously you think that the only people who read the tinterweb also go to the game and buy a programme? stpid

Now now Mr MJ- don't start quoting facts and let the truth spoil Dibble's little spoilt kid style rant.

To be fair, Ken didn't actually say very much, just expressed mild disgruntlement.

On the other hand, it does seem a bit misplaced. I once lost quite a bit by renting an office that turned out not to be in the right spot and so didn't attract many clients. I didn't think of posting a message telling everyone that business would have been better if I'd been supported!! People have a right to choose how to spend their money and I'd made a business mistake

I don't think any friendly is worth travelling for given that by their nature they are try outs and non competitive but if I lived in the town I guess I would have gone along.

I suspect Uncle Ken was hoping for a full or nearly full house but 2500 people for a friendly is not a bad turnout in my opinion, there are many clubs who do not exceed that for the mojority of their home league matches.

I don't generally do friendlies cos like Mr I says they're generally a bit cack.

But I went to the AZ game and it was better than most friendlies.

The only other one I've been to in the last few years was Micky Barron's testimonial game, purely cos it was for him.
