I started doing my ancestry in 2018 and in 2021 discovered that I have 2 sisters who I was unaware of, when I was 2 years old our Mother died in an accident and due to our father being in the navy we were put up for adoption and I ended up coming to Hartlepool from Portsmouth where I was born but the paternal side are from Hartlepool. After initial contact with my elder sister we both done DNA and it confirmed our relationship, with regards to doing the family tree, start with what you know for fact then quiz family members but then back it up, I spent a day at York university in the archives section as they have all the records for East Yorkshire where my paternal lines come from, I was able to trace a paper trail back to 1530 from parish records, I will be going to Portsmouth next year to spend a bit of time looking at the parish records for my maternal side. The downside is it can become addictive and a lot of time spent chasing up the hints on Ancestry.
Also Ancestry is USA based so tries to send you to look at people from there with similar names grrrrr.
