all that is fine and for me it was perfection for shopping at the time. however what could they have done in the meantime whilst lynne, whitby and church street were being developed or knocked down and rebuilt. they had to move the town centre but its what they did with it is the problem.

Stockton shot itself in the foot years ago by building Wellington Square…seems to see itself as a High Street entertainment venue more than a shopping centre.

they would have been better demolishing that and the area at the back of it than castlegate where you could park undercover, shop downstairs then cross the road to the market and do everything in a circle without backtracking. stockton think of themselves as some tourist centre where people come to look at the river. fact is most councils think there towns are hot spots for tourism and an area of natural beauty.
