That was the Grammar school sweet shop! I don't think it was always VG though.

Reduces Our Cost of Living! .... but Rocol was already the name of a special lubricant used for cutting screw threads with taps and dies. Anyone ever work in a machine shop? Remember the smell of Rocol and swarf? White water?

Remind me where Roker Street was. Are you sure it isn't the same bike shop I mentioned which was in South Road?

Roker Street is behind the Gemini, between Villiers Street and Park Road, sort of opposite Barlows in Park Road.

Who remembers in the Co-op building in the kids shoes section, that wooden train you would sit on which had a slider/ruler thing so you could have your feet measured?

I wonder do other towns have such a lot of buildings that used to be something else.....when you've been away for a while it's a bit like those nightmares where you're walking up a familiar street and then, suddenly, everything changes.

When we used to go to the town on the bus me mam always said "1 and 2 halves to the Yorkshire lassie" (remember that?)

She still calls the bingo hall in York Road "The Asoldo"
To me it will always be Fairworld. :sweeeet:

Nah it'll always be the Essoldo. Christ knows why like but there was four cinemas in Hartlepool. The Odeon, The ABC, The Gaumont and the Essoldo.

The ABC is Pools car park, the Gaumont is the Fire Station, The Odeon is rotting away and I'm not sure about the Essoldo but I think it's still there, I haven't looked in yonks.

I saw the Glenn Miller Story in the Gaumont and then me Mam took me to the Stranton to meet me Dad. Not for the first time like, I mean after work.......
