Utter self-indulgent toss

Can you explain "self-indulgent" cos i don't think it means the same thing to me and you.
For me it's the sort of filly-up stuff you got from groups like Yes, Genesis, King Crimson that turned 5 minute songs into 15 minute ones and no one understood except perhaps the group themselves.
Self-indulgence also applies to 15 minute Ginger Baker drum solos.

declan has himself produced some proper bland stuff during his career, beautiful south have done the same, but they also produced some cracking tunes written with a sense of humour. I personally love both acts.
I think you've gone a bit ray charles on us there

Errr..it wasn't SUPPOSED to be a "well thought out argument" mate, it was supposed to a oft-repeated rant, which I presume was required by Mr Baptist mentioning Paul Heaton???

Perhaps everything I say should be prefaced by "IN MY OPINION...." from now on???

OK then...IN MY OPINION The Beautiful South make music for B&Q Brides, the dullest most pointless band ever to have a career, each member is up their own arses they are the musical equivalent of a Debenhams Gift Voucher.

OK???

You are correct Mr ECG.

The Beautiful South are one of my favourite bands and I know your views on them hence my mention of Mr Heaton.

Some things just have to be mentioned for the craic. It'd be like trying to tell Mr Marx that criminals should be hung or telling Chip that Pools have played well.

Wouldn't life be boring if we all liked the same stuff or shared the same views!

Although on this occassion I reckon that I'm right and you're wrong

Strange innit. Carter are my TOTAL favourite band of all time. But I like a wide range of music!

The Beautiful South are on the "allowed play list" when myself and Mrs Baptist are chilling with drink and tunes as she is a fan too (although I didn't get her at B&Q), but Carter aren't as she doesn't like "loud stuff". rage

Although the "not allowed" list also includes her cds including Westlife, Take That, Hits from the Musicals etc etc etc.

Although I'm "not allowed" The Sex Pistols either.

To be fair it was the crew rather than the band,I was on a ferry to Dublin, going to a festival in Tipperary & I met their crew in the bar & tried to scrounge a lift. They reckoned they couldnt because of insurance.
If my bike had broken down a year earlier I bet Elvis would have given me a lift
