Still first choice keeper at Cheltenham, currently third in League Two. Interviewed about his entire career here:

https://www.gloucestershirelive.co.uk/s ... am-4707944

He talks honestly about the pressures of being a keeper and the various clubs he's played for and hasn't a bad word to say about Pools - "“I loved every minute of it there and there were some highs and lows, but the club was absolutely brilliant."

Like Scott Loach a good journeyman low league goalkeeper.

Started off okay , but steadily got worse during his time at Pools, becoming average at best at the end. In his defence the team got steadily worse year on year as well as well as the club.

I thought he was on his way out of league football and non league beckoned for him, he wasnt even that good at York by all accounts, but fair play to the bloke for resurrecting his career.

He was always the top class pro., looking after himself , good with the fans and seemed like a decent bloke.

Always rated him but I know there are a few on here who thought he was crap (one in particular - guess who :)) )

I will always remember driving home from a game one Saturday with the lad - we have a long journey to Pools so I was taking it steady in the inside lane on the motorway to avoid spunking petrol for little gain as it takes fucking hours to get home regardless - anyway, a car pulled up along side us and was just keeping pace with us, my initial thought was 'who's this prick?'...glanced across and it was Neil Austin looking at us smiling/waving, he'd clearly seen the colours in the back window, he then tapped on the shoulder of his passenger who was bent down in the passenger seat and up popped Flinders... :)

I love the fact that lower league players still have that link to the fans, they still retain that 'just a normal bloke' quality (well, largely) and aren't all Billy big boots like, I would imagine, their Premiershit counterparts, besides I wouldn't be able to see them through their fucking blacked out windows and I can't imagine they'd wind the window down, the glove wearing fannies...'ooo put the window up, I'm cold' etc

Who was it Shilts? wouldn't have been me, as I didn't think he was crap, just thought we could've had better, hence I said average, same with Loach, though seems both have improved since they left pools, strange that !

Jamie Carragher once winded down his window to some fans
