Notice Devante Rodney scores for Port Vale, their first goal was scored by Tom Conlon, now have I just imagined this but he on loan to us a couple of seasons ago and didn't get a run out? sctatchinghead

Saw a great game there once. Pools list 3-1 but Emerson was really good.

One of my first away games, think Paulus was with us, got beat 2-0 1978. A coachload of Pools fans stood on end behind goal size of Roker End at Sunderland , or so it seemed at the time. Rememeber it was near or on Bonny nite and when coach drove through Chapeltown Leeds there were bonfires lit in the back streets.

That was it Mr.Horden. Funny old season that(78/79), we were sat in 20th position in the league with 6 games left and won 5 of them to finish 12th

Thing is I really fancied us to do well the following season as we had goals in the team and Mark Lawrence had just scored 6 goals in our last 4 games of the season playing from midfield, then the usual Pools curse struck, he gets a career finishing injury and the rest is history sadx

Mark Lawrence was class, used to love watching him play. Plenty of good honest pros in Pools' sides in those days (Micky Spelman comes to mind) but Mark was a cut above as a footballer.

4 wins on the trot between 2004-2007 , before that though it was a bad ground for us, only winning once in promotion season of 67/68

Remember him scoring the winner at Darlo two seasons running , both 1-0 wins, the first one on a May Day Bank Holiday Monday in 1979 was a 25 yarder , that burst the net at the Tin Shed end. The other one was in January 1980 , when we took our biggest following to Feethams since the famous game of1972.
