RANGERS SNIFFING AROUND POOLS PLAYERS

By HUFC_ADMINISTRATOR
Date: 30/7/2007

THERE are unconfrirmed reports that one of Scotland's biggest clubs have tried to sign one of Hartlepool United's biggest prospects before the beginning of the season.

Rumours are circulating that Glasgow Rangers have made a major bid (rumoured to be around the £500,000 mark) for hot young prospect James Brown.

Apparently the offer has been rebuffed, with the Scottish club told they will have to come up with a much more attractive offer before Pools even considered it.

If true, it shows that other clubs are now looking at the Victoria Ground club as a showcase for talent, and also for Pools to turn down such a sum indicates their detemination to succeed at the highest level and not become just a selling club.

Where did he get his info from? Is there any truth to it or is it just bollocks....

It's probably major bollox.

Another tinterweb rumour, possibly even started by that Rivals poster who reckons to live up Chillyjockoland, whatever his name is.

I've heard that Ajax have bid 750K for Gary Liddle.
Unconfirmed of course but there's no smoke without fire.

I've no doubt the rumour is utter bollocks but as a matter of interest what price would you put on young JB?

i cant believe you think brownie is worth a million
to date he has been a very good player but is unproven in higher divisions
he is potentially one of our best ever players but he has not done enough to warrant that sort of price tag. he has not scored enough goals or stood out enough from the others to warrant that price tag.
i would like nothing better than for brownie to go on and break the scoring record for england in years to come and gain lots of england caps but at this moment in time he is a very good lower league footballer with potential.
reallistic fee 4/500000 based on his potential.

Well if the transfer market hadn't gone crazy I'd be looking at 250k plus, remember Adam Boyd went for 500k and he was much more of a proven player than James Brown is at present.

However if the inflated prices are going to drop down the league (1.2 mil for Trundle who's 31), perhaps 500k would not be out of the question.

Based on last seasons performances i couldn't see any club wating to pay more than 250k to get Brown at present. We all know he is a quality player and expect him to do well, if he does well for a season in league one then 400/500k or maybe even higher can start to be mentioned but at present no club will bid daft money for a player who has played a season in Division Four.

The best way to deal with these JB rumours is just to reject every single offer we don't receive

Rubbish! We should seriously consider any offer we don't receive for Brown if the price is right.

£1million my arse. Yeah he has potential but has proved nothing yet. I imagine the most anyone would offer is £250k which is good as we wont accept it.

In regards to Jon Stead, he was at huddersfield in Division Four but hadn't he scored about 20 goals by new year....? Not 6 or 7 in the whole season. Bedore people take what I'm saying the wrong way I'm not knocking Browns talent as he has heaps already and a lot of potential but until he does the business in league one there aren't going to be any daft bids for him.....

He didnt even do the business in League 2 as was a liability for around half the games.

But surely that would lead to lots of transfer rumours so we should really be seriously considering any transfer offers we haven't had for JB but only if the price is wrong sctatchinghead

Jon Stead is was and always will be a very average player but the point is, someone paid a million plus for him. Once it's done, someone else will just in case they're missing something. Since he moved from Huddersfield someone else paid 1.8mil and then Sheff Utd paid 750K and he's still no good.

Perhaps someone can tell me how many first team games Paul Robinson played in his career before Wimbledon paid a million and a half for him.

On second thoughts I'll save you the bother.

http://www.soccerbase.com/players_detai ... yerid=9316

250K on the strength of 10 starts and 4 goals for Darlo; 1.5m on the strength of 2 starts and 1 goal (EUFA Cup) for the Skunks.

By those standards Young James is worth 10 million

Huckerby was a strange one at the time but they were proved to be right and Lua Lua was scoring a wonder goal a week on Football League Extra. Anyway they can keep their mits off our James anyway...... Paying 7 million for Hartson and buying players like Paul Robinson is what started the demise of Wimbledon.....
