How did a Championship winning team come out of war torn Iraq?? The team that used to get it's feet beaten by Saddam's son if they lost. Naturally this sparked much mixed faith rejoicing in the street in Baghdad, it is not documented whether Al Qaeda joined in but they certainly did when Iraq won the semi-final. Two car bombs went off among the mixed rejoicing throngs killing 87 people and wounding hundreds more. Anyway, the occupying coalition would have us believe that the car bombs were the work of Al Qaeda and it's Sunni insurgents.......

If the result does help slightly to reconcile the various factions then I don't give a fook how much the Americans paid to guarantee victory for the Iraqis (allegedly)

I happened to be shopping in the Indian grocers for some curry ingredients an Asian area of Nottingham yesterday afternoon at about 4pm.

There was a convoy of about 10 cars of Iraqis driving up and down the main street, constantly beeping their horns, with blokes hanging out of the windows, punching the air and waving flags. It was quite a cheery spectacle, it's about time the poor feckers had something to celebrate.

It made me wonder what Hartlepool would have been like if Walsall and Bristol hadn't got in our way.

Iraq cannot be solved simply because as a united country it does not exist. I spent some time there a couple of years ago and believe me, it cannot be done. The only solution to the violence is to split it up into Sunni, Shia and Kurd states. Even then they'll fight over the placing of the borders.

I think the fight'll be more about who's state has got the oil.
