Just started a free online course learning html coding. I'm quite enjoying it. I'm thinking of something to do as a second career. Anybody know if you can get into it from scratch when you're errrr not the youngest!

I don't see why age would be a barrier to learning, but if you are serious about learning it to a level that you can earn money from it, then the main problem I can see is the fact that it is very easy these days to produce a smart looking website with no coding skills whatsoever.

Yeah came to type just this. I do a fair bit of web design for my job, you have to be very good and also be a developer, it's too easy to get a template and build a nice site now.

Probably best to do free sites for yourself, neighbours, local societies etc. and keep it as a hobby. The moment people start paying you for it they expect the world and you won't be able to give them that.

Python is a scripting language. Very simple to learn but not to everybody's taste because of the whitespace issue.

I did a number of programming course many years ago, the first two were in Pascal and C++ which kind of ages it. I don’t deny it’s been a useful skill over the years but the main thing I learned was that I found coding frigging tedious.

Pascal is a great foundation for modern code. Even if it’s just to teach you how to define things properly.
