Good watch, brings a tear to your eye, why didn’t the club apply to pay 80% of his salary ?

That was brilliant. It’s really sad that someone held in that regard is leaving the club.

Top gag from Tony Sweeney about it being a good job we have all the other media departments to fall back on

I’d like to say thank you to Mark as well he was brilliant at his job, you realise that even more when you live away and are pretty much reliant on his content to keep you connected to the club. The thing is as well since we went out of the League it’s got better I suppose as he had more control as weren’t tied into as much stuff.

Nice touch. Good to see some of the ex players, Neil Aspin doesn't look too clever like

Why couldn’t they furlough him, after all those years of service I would have thought there would have been a substantial redundancy payment or being cynical an excuse to ‘get rid of ‘ ?

Great video, such a shame to see Mark leave. All the best for the future Mark if you read this, listening in won't quite be the same.

Surely it's obvious why. The club have gambled on promotion and failed, therefore cuts will have to be made in the long term. It would be pointless to furlough someone you didn't intend to keep on once the lockdown ends.
Sadly Mark's position has been deemed as one we can do without at the level we're at, I doubt he'll be the only one to leave but probably one who will be missed the most by the fans.

Pools are f*cking useless , this is a bit like losing your job and having to make cutbacks , so you get rid of your cooker , stupidity of the highest order.

I couldn't identify everyone in that video but clearly every one of them is a Pools stalwart.
With such an outpouring of respect, I can only agree with them.
BTW nice disguise Mr Nelson.

just why does the club keep shooting itself in the foot where the fans are concerned. started watching more games this season that i,ve done for years. really getting the interest again and now something like this happened. the club certainly gives more reasons to stop going than returning regularly.

Now I can't go I completely rely on the match day commentary and Simmos's was quality.

Can we really not afford to keep him on??

Fantastic video. Every word and every accolade absolutely true and deserved. The news of your departure still hasn't sunk in, Mark, and I'm still shocked.
All the very best for the future and I'm sure plenty of other clubs will be after your services.
A few people have been given the title "Mr Hartlepool United" but you are up there with the best of them.
Just about every game that I haven't attended I've been sat next to you in the commentary box and felt I was there. That's how vivid you were. At no time were you biased !!!! Some of your exasperations at the God awful refereeing we have to put up with were a delight.
Gonna miss you mate and you are a mate...a mate to all Poolies and we all love you.

Mark so sorry you are leaving and a big thank you for all your effort and the time you have put into the club, you will be sorely missed. We have spoken a couple of times and you always came across well and a credit to yourself and the club you obviously loved. Your commentaries were legendary and came from the heart. We the fans will miss you especially the poolie expats both in this country and around the world, you kept us in touch with what was going on and we thank you. Your departure should have been announced with due respect and not fallen to Micky Barron to tell us. I am sure this rates as a massive OWN GOAL.

A crying shame it took Mark's firing to bring together all the stars for a brilliant video. When the season starts up again, or next, or the one after that I'm going to be bereft without Mark to entertain me on Saturday afternoon when I'm thousands of miles from the stadium. He really brought even the dullest of games to life. Top man,

Great video. Also, great gesture from Barron to organise it. He’s obviously a pools man to the bone. Simmo will hopefully find something better. He doesn’t need a CV; just send this to every club and newspaper in the land.

It really is a shame, I’ve had plenty of dealing with Mark over the years from the Monkeyhangerz Recording through to the launch of the supporters trust and plenty of Bunker stuff in between.

During the Hodcroft years when he was largely muzzled to a large extent but still maintained a professional approach and produced some great content to the Monkeyhangerz period when he did everything in his power to make it a success. There was a bit of friction occasionally, particularly when he was under orders from Hodcroft to identify a poster but I wouldn’t divulge names. But even then, I knew that Mark was keeping the lawyers at bay. He had to be Lord Haw Haw back then but he did the very best he could in very difficult circumstances.

Over the years Mark has developed into a top notch broadcaster and I hope there is a career in that direction for him. He certainly deserves it.

Looking back, Simmo has always been a gentleman, a professional and above all, a genuine and passionate fan. Good luck mate.

Best case scenario would be the club rehire him once this has finished. Although I wouldn't say no to him covering games on BBC Tees.

Good shout about Radio Tees. I would have thought that HUST and/or The Supporter's Association could benefit from Mark's experience & his love for the club

He's a Sunderland supporter isn't he? If we really care about him, we shouldn't buy a season ticket unless until he is re-instated. Anyway Its about time Pools started employing people who actually do love our club rather than people who love other clubs like Newcastle , Sunderland or Boro.

A sunderland fan he might be but you can not doubt his commitment over the 18 years he was here and his ability to go above and beyond, you just dont hear a bad word said about him.

I never doubted his commitment , as far as I am concerned he did a good job. I am prepared to fight for him if he wants it back, are others who claim to be good friends of his prepared to do the same?. I don't subscribe to the theory that someone is a good person just because no one says a bad word about them , but its fair to say in this instance Mark Simpson became very popular during his time at the club.

Dont care who they support you need to keep people that add value to the club and remove those that dont.

I'll help if I can. What do you propose we do? You need to find out if he wants to come back.
