With my huge playlist.

First ten songs cheered me up no end.

Idlewild -readers and writers
British sea power - the voice of ivy lee
Carter the unstoppable sex machine - evil
The Beatles - Lucy in the sky with diamonds
The ramones - Rockaway beach
Frank Turner- glory hallelujah
James - sometimes
Feeder - piece by piece
Sleeper - statuesque
Little man Tate - house party at booths

And then Jethro Tull - cross eyed Mary.

Anyone beat that?

I wanted to beat the ‘neighbour’ who has for several days been playing his radio in the garden with grindingly mundane Radio Dross at top volume. I don’t know what’s worse, the ‘music’ or the motormouths talking drivel.
Luckily we bumped into each other last night coming out of the house, the problem has evaporated.

We've been exploring some of the 15,000 Internet channels programmed into Madame Poolier's radio, so I can't give any specific playlist.
Two best stations so far: Quasar the Album Station and Do You Remember, both probably a bit too too retro for most people on here.

Health warning: Do You Remember has been known to play Brotherhood of Man songs. They don't have advertising so we treat that as the commercial break.

Tomorrow I plan to catch up on a bunch of albums released this year, see if anything new stands out.

Let us know.

Aaahhhhh...Suicide, one of the finest listening experiences for those of a nervous disposition, listen to Frankie Teardrop very loud, on headphones, in the dark.

We mostly have BBC 6 on all day. No adverts, and a good mix of new stuff and very good tunes from the past.

Where else would you hear the latest track from the Sleaford Mods sandwiched between Desmond Dekker and Orbital?

Music makes me think of better times and hope that the nwere younger bands have time to be even more creative now.

Except when the missus insists on putting that God awful smooth radio on and then I hate music and want to die immediately.

thats always been the problem for music. one mans top tunes are someone elses worst noise. who can ever say what is good or bad. we can give numerous reasons for supporting pools and most will agree on em as they may be similar to theirs. but mention any music being the best or worst and you,ll have a debate lasting forever even with a mate or partner you have had for years. me and her indoors can watch the same tv programmes but not listen to hardly anything music related.

Sorry mr accrington. There is no defence for smooth radio. Its either songs I hated that my parents liked or songs that I hated growing up.

Unlike the human body and mind getting older shouldn't reduce your ability to know good music. No matter what genre.

And something else I am hoping is that lots of bands that broke up way too early might now think lifes too short and get back together and go again.

I thought Smooth was okay once upon a time , buts its poor these days. PIN mentioned BBC radio 6 , never knew such a thing existed , checked it out , fairly decent listen.

Stuff that's had any hint of rough edges or anything interesting removed. Safe, middle of the road, not too fast etc.

Nope today I was playing music but it's quite possible a Floyd or two stole their way in.
I didn't participate in the 8 o'clock serenade though; it's a bit pointless from my house. I don't have a balcony, not even an upstairs window.

you are being kind calling it just bland. tuneless, boring and sounding similar to 100,s of other stuff and sounds like background music with words. mind you who are we to rubbish it as i imagine there are loads that like that type of stuff.

I dunno, I'd rather have vanilla music playing in the background than noodle jazz or mothafucka rap, for example.
But with my progster/folkie/rocker Frankentaste, I obviously wouldn't make it my first choice.

Dont mind radio x but their playlist is very small and repetitive. Some decent DJs though.

Yeah, think Sunday's their best day, Ed Gamble & Matthew Crosby, followed by Danny Wallace then (usually but he's ill) Gordon Smart.

I'll try anything within or without reason but I don't really spend that much time discovering.
Hell there are songs I LIKE listening to ad nauseum.
About the only thing I refuse point blank to listen to is the Gypsy Kings.

Don't mind a bit of late 70s music.
Lidisfarne n Gerry Rafferty.
Me Dad used to put Baker Street on the Duke box in the Bay Horse Inn (Middleton Tyas). Near Scotch Corner on the way to Barnard Castle caravan site for the weekend.
Happy Days.

So having the time I decided to listen to 5 albums that maybe I didnt appreciate as much as I should have done at the time.

In no particular order

1) The small price of a bicycle - the icicle works.

Was I deaf back then. It's a wonderful album.

2) god fodder- Neds atomic dustbin

I loved this album then but listening again now it's even better.

3) Dazzle ships - OMD

Didnt like this when it came out but now it's such a good listen. Read a review a couple of months ago looking back at it and the review said much the same. Different and a hard listen but ingenius. All influenced by john foxx and kraftwerk and Gary numan.

4) nothing worth having comes easy - Little man Tate.

Preferred their debut album to this then but now listening to this, massively under-rated. Love it.

The only good to come out of this awful virus.
