Yup, got to agree good luck to him.

I always thought he was destined for better thinks than this (no offence to Bury), hope it works out for him.

Hopefully Jimbo will do really well. Some of the saves he made were outstanding and I wish the lad nothing but the best..... A decent keeper who didn't get a fair chance in my opinion.....

That may have been the case Tree when people like you where in there element (when we where absolutely gash on and off the field) But its not the case these days, some decent players get released by Hartlepool United, and just about all of them find a league club, which in a strange way is a real sign of progression.

Its just the fact that he was utter dross and at fault for so many goals that gives me this opinion.

You were probably one of those who thought Taffy was the dogs bollocks despite him doing everything he could to give Rushden the title. At fault for about 15 goals that season but no fucker could see it because he would "have a laugh with the town end"

I though Williams was a terrible keeper, lacked bravery awful on crosses. Provett played one season and won player of the year, he lacked inches thats all which cost us goals from set-pieces and I wouldn't have wanted him to be first choice this season.

That doesn't make him a bad keeper though, because to those with eyes and any judgement can see he quite clearly isn't one.

On Taffy Williams - he was rubbish, Marty Hollund was no where near perfect but was far better than Taff but he was frozen out of Pools. Jim Provett was a decent ish keeper, he was no where near as bad as Taffy Williams. Provett wasn't given the same forgiveness after his mistakes that Dimitrious was given after some of his howlers. I am pleased that Provett has got a club but I am also pleased that he isn't the Pools number 1.....

Amazing cos when Taffy was here most people thought he was the best keeper ever.

I certainly didn't - he had 4 or 5 good performances initially I'll give him that and he saved a couple of penalties and that was about it. We should of sold him to Cardiff when they bid silly money for him and I said so at the time....

I will say that I rated Martin Hollund although I know a lot of people thought he was garbage....

They must have eventually stopped raving about Taff then because I've never EVER heard anyone say anything good about him, most of all Neale Cooper who made it clear exactly what he thought of him!

People did rave about Anthony Williams, Chris Turner seemed to think he was an awesome keeper and when the old combined Pools/Darlo XI used to get posted many used to try and say that Taff was better than Andy Collett. Mind you some Darlo fans used to claim that cloggers like Mark Ford were better than Mark Tinkler despite the fact 5 or 6 years ago Tinkler was about as good a midfielder as you would get in Division Four.....

But to be fair to Taffy i'd say he got gradually worse as his time went on, he looked decent (but no better for me) at first but how Jim didn't get a chance in the promotion season after some of Williams displays is beyond me (Rochdale away anyone?) Strangly despite his gaffs he seemed to remain popular with the fans, he always had a smile on his face and be up for a bit of banter with the Town End. But in hindsight he wasn't a good keeper, we have seen far better since.

Our standards are probably rising though in terms of judging players. I mean 10 years ago I bet someone like Michael Procter would have been fairly popular at the Vic, he appeared to work hard and had nice boots. Our bar is raising, like when some thought Tony Williams was a good keeper!!

No, I was always firmly in the 'Williams is cack' camp. I was at that Rochdale away, it was my mates birthday and their lass had given him 50 snodgers ((c)Mutley) to get leathered and Williams ruined his day.............

Another player you've stalked then!!

Provett hasnt regular for almost two years, yet is still rated good enough to go to a league club where he will be number one and no doubt his move will be to his benefit.

Williams was an average keeper who was capable of pulling off an extravagant save here and there but i was more appalled with is distribution than anything else - in the era of playing in the tesco bags he must have found a pools player at the most one in five times.

good luck to the pair of them i suppose
