You see Mr Tree wants the thread closing down, although he has had his twopenneth.

As he proudly announced not so long ago that he no longer reads my posts and has me on ignore, it can't be my contribution he is getting excited about. I wonder which one of the rest of you is upsetting him.

Come on Mr Derwent, lets be serious about this.

The concept of both race cards and rape cards is deeply flawed. There is plenty of evidence to show that most rapes are not reported and that, of those that are, few cases are prosecuted compared to other crimes where allegations are made. Suggesting that lots of these victims are lying and gleefully playing a card just flies in the face of the facts and prevents proper rational discussion. Of course there are a small number of malicious allegations, often made by vulberable people, but they're so tiny that in any discussion about rape they aren't really relevant.

The same applies to the race card. It doesn't exist, racism isn't a game and people who are subject to it, which would include all black footballers through their work, education or general life, have every right to object to that phrase. To be looked at separately is the idea that people can make false accusations of racism. Obviously that is possible but, just as false allegations of rape are actully very rare, I think most possible complainants take this sort thing very seriously indeed. The most likely explanations for a disagreement about whether racist abuse was used are that the understanding of what constitutes racist abuse is different, or that what was shouted was either misheard or completely missed by some or all of the people nearby.

An investigation will try to get to the bottom of that and clarify matters. It might find that there is no supporting evidence for what the player says but even that wouldn't necessarily make him a liar or cheat. Whatever the outcome, raising the idea of a race card at this stage isn't helpful. If the allegation turns out to be correct it is basically insulting the victim and other victims to boot. If you must suggest he might have ulterior motives while we're waiting for the investigation to be completed you could use more moderate language.

The race card, just like the rape card, is played regularly and in each area lies a lot of grey. Neither is as black and white as some would have it. Making that observation neither makes me a racist or a rapist.

there are cases where this is true but nowadays there are so many that will argue that these cases will never and will never happen. even mentioning who commits crimes you have to be careful with your words and get facts 100 per cent correct unless you want fingers pointing at you.

There really aren't 'so many' people who'll argue those things Mr Accrington. I've never heard anybody argue that deliberately false allegations never take place, only that they are massively outnumbered by legitimate complaints and as these aren't always taken seriously by the authorities the likes of the police, schools etc should start by taking the llegation seriously and treating the complainant as a victim. That still allows the case to be dismissed after investigation but it helps the genuine victims, which are in a huge majority, to feel that they are being supported rather than investigated and disbelieved.

A simple way to look at this is that if you got burgled how would you feel if the copper's first question was whether you were insured because loads of people were faking break-ins to defraud the insurance? When you question this and say shouldn't he be trying to catch the criminal he says that 'people like you' are known for playing the break-in card to get new TVs. He then warns you that if you press ahead you might anger the insurance company who could prosecute you for making false claims because they are sick of your sort.

Obviously that isn't an exact equivalent but it is broadly speaking how black people have been treated by the authorities in the UK for decades when they've complained about racism. That's why it is best nto to talkj about race cards being played - not because people are too touchy but because it gets used as a cover for racism in the police, schools etc. I'm sure neither you or Mr Derwent mean to do that so it is best not to use the term.

I find it a bit strange that both the teams there has been problems with have been from the same area of the country ,Kent. We have played teams with more black players in them than either and have not had any problems and no bad remarks to any of our own black guys even when they have played poorly there has been no racist comments. It strikes me that Ebbsfleet in particular need to get their own house in order as they have been in trouble for failing to control the players. It would seeem Saturday is another example of this happening.

Jesus Christ. Who brought rape into this?!

No, you won't be charged for racism if you aren't racist. I can't believe I even have to write that. However, just because you don't think you're being racist, doesn't mean that you're not being racist.

And just because you think I'm being racist doesn't mean I am being racist.

I've seen so much cheating and lying to influence matters on football fields in my time to rule nothing out, including use of the race card.

I sometimes wonder how long it will be before white players are encouraged to use it.
Some people will stop at nothing to gain advantage.

Am I cynical.............possibly.

Here's the thing Derwent, I know I'm not the judge, jury and executioner in incidents like this. I'm more than happy to take the correct advice from appropriate bodies, like Kick It Out, the Police or the Court. I also think it's vital that we listen to the victim in an incident like this, rather than the alleged perpetrator.

I agree Phil, as long as we get it right who the actual victim is.

know its changing the subject but it would not surprise me one little bit if that response you mentioned by the police does not happen. thats when they finally arrive anyway. 17 hours was the response time to a recent one down my way. only had one break in myself without actually anything much taken. only sympathy i got was that our security was not up to much. the rottweiler and german shepherd were out with us at the time which was the pity.
