Anybody think the cycling thing is a bit overdone in England. I mean here, everyone's got a bike and everyone uses their bike. France, Holland yep, bikes everywhere. But in England, they're still largely a toy with a bit of fitness by odd bods here and there thrown in. There simply isn't legions of cyclists and there never will be.

I know in Worksop, they installed cycle lanes in all the raggier parts of town which were obviously ignored as all the chavs cycle on the pavement and in the pedestrianised precinct anyway. But they did it because they got an EU grant to do it.

So I have a sneaking feeling that this is simply another way of stealing money from the motorist.

Am I being over suspicious??

if they put a physical barrier in place with all the money they get from fines,i.e. kerbs to stop cars entering bike lanes, then the problem will be erased - but we know they wouldn't possibly use fines from motoring offences to improve road safety. They'll just use it to buy more cameras and get more fines. Utterly pi$$-taking.

Plenty of bikes here Mr Dogeater and almost 200km of bike lanes, although you'd be hard put to recognise some of them as such.
The problem is not cars parking in bike lanes or bikes not using the lanes, it's the fookin pedestrians who think they have found a wonderful new pavement all to themselves. They wouldn't expect to be able to stop and natter in the middle of the road or walk down it six abreast without roadkill, so why the fook do they do it in bike lanes?

So if there's plenty of one and plenty of the other, no problem, the pedestrians and cyclists can sort their territorial differences out on the spot.

But there's not enough call for bike lanes in the UK, so making a cash cow out of them doesn't serve anyone except the treasury. It's another thin excuse to screw the motorist.

It really hacks me of, how come cyclists dont get fined for riding up on the pavement, back into the road, the wrong way down one way streets etc etc

If cyclists want to be recognised on the road, they should pay insurance and tax banghead rage
