I'll hazard a guess and say this has something to do with Neale Cooper who is at Peterhead...

Full marks Mr. G What's more worrying from their point of view is the following assessment.

Steve Istead-Thought he did very well, pacy & good vision & hard working, worth signing if we have the funds.

Shoot me down here if you like, but at one point Istead certainly looked as though he would become a good player and certainly put some decent performances in.

Then Scotty took charge

I was in Leeds' train station and this large guy went up to me and said "do you know Steven Istead" and I said "not personally but I've seen him play"...well "he was shit, I was better than him", his mate went "no you weren't, you were shit"..."yeah but I honestly was better than him".

Just thought I'd share that.

Anyhow...

Istead...showed some promise when he went on those runs on won pens. But during our relegation season he looked way out of depth to be honest.

You never know...he might be the next Jermaine Easter...you never know.

Istead's big problem for me was that he didn't move on. After a stellar start - youngest ever player, lightning pace etc, he needed to move from being the super sub who ran them ragged in the last 10 minutes to someone that could play the full game and give a fullback nightmares. Instead of that, he remained an impact runner for the last 10, and his crossing was suspect too - it may be that he's developed in the last year, but there weren't too many complaints when he left for good reasons...

One of his best moments came against Port Vale i think when he picked the ball up half way in our half and ran at the defenders only to be brought down and win us a penalty.

His goal at Colchester was a peice of brilliance - or then again it may have been a flukey cross that went in rather than a planned shot. I prefer to think it was skill. I always thought he was a bit of a one trick pony and when found out was pretty ineffectual. I wish him good luck for the future as he seemed like a good lad and was always amusing on the Pools World commentaries.
