We should recruit Mr Drummond (not the Shrewsbury one). Trouble is that it might be politically difficult for him to be overtly involved.

Ideally yes but wouldn't he have to resign as Mayor? Then if he didn't get elected he could hardly go back to the electorate and say; ermm yes I wanted the MP's job but now I'll be Mayor again. It would be interpreted as being Mayor was less important.

Unless a notable and equally popular successor to Mr Drummond can be found, I think he's more likely to do good for the town of Hartlepool in the role of mayor.
A Poolie Pride MP will be a voice for the people but it's no guarantee of getting anything done for the town when it's just one voice against 600 and odd.

Stating the obvious...... whoever stands, if elected, will have to spend a large bit of their life in London and another large bit being on demand at all hours. Has to be somebody who doesn't mind rarely seeing their family and having little life to call their own??

It's no worse than being a teacher where you work like buggery for six months and do nowt for the other apart from those social events to which you accept the invitations. As an indy you wouldn't have to be paired like the Government and the opposition are. constituency surgery every month and away you go.
