Had some roasted fennel as part of me dinner, I've never had it before and it was really tasty.

The problem is in the mixing of different foods. Fennel is for the upper class so therefore your starter should have been caviar or other such delicacies. You can't just change from pie and chips to posh scran without repercussions.

Fennel goes well with fish dishes with sardines being my favourite.
