I was informed earlier in the week that I was entitled to wear an Armed Forces Veterans badge, how old do they think I am. Anyway,I will shortly be regailing you with tales from my service !!!

I am going to apply for it mind you, I like badges me

Two things Mr B.

1/ you don't have to be that old to wear the badge.

"Men and Women who enlisted in HM Armed Forces between 3 September 1945 and 31 December 1994 are entitled to a Veterans Badge. " so say you joined at 17 in 1995, that would make you 29 now and legally entitled to wear it.

2/ Unfortunately you are right - you are old!

That paving needs setting properly, it's a health and safety hazard and someone could easily trip.

I do sometimes wonder if people ever get over things they see/do while serving in the forces. Especially as they get sent off so young.
Bit like accident and emergency personnel I suppose who are always having to deal with death and gore.

I did 11 yrs as a squaddie, have worked as a Staff Nurse including Casualty, and am now a screw- does that make me a gore-perv ????

The short answer is no, you never forget traumatic events.

Whoever you are and whatever your personality, being involved in a war changes you whether you care to admit it or not. Putting myself aside, I know scores of guys who came back from the Falklands profoundly different to the carefree young lads who went there. The same can be said for Ireland, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan etc etc etc... and you never get that innocence back.
