Nico Muir is looking one of the best strikers we have had for a long time,so why is Mr Bates predicting we will not have him long. We should be appreciating what we have while he is here.It is a matter of using him to achieve our aim of promotion while he MAY be on the first rung of a successful career. He would be better for at least two years to stay at Pools and get the game time under his belt and make up for lost time and also remember who gave him the chance of a full time career. He need look no further than Luke James who had his head turned when he was not the finished article and look what happened for him else where.

If you read what Bates actually said it’s what they have been saying to Niko to build his confidence, keep doing what you are doing and you could go all the way. It’s called man management.

Obviously the Mails clickbait Twitter feed has taken this and come up with the ridiculous ‘Pools face fight to hold onto star striker’ which is utter, utter nonsense designed to get views. They put something on the other week about the council moving into plush new offices including a similalry misleading headline when you clicked it was Durham County Council. The Mail has had its day it’s awful. The free Hartlepool life paper is far superior and offers better Pools coverage.

In reality the lad is doing well and shows great promise buts he’s played 7 games as a pro and scored twice, I think you are getting a little ahead of yourself getting worried about losing him!

He's scored 2 in 7 National League games, the struggle to keep hold of him is real PJ. Real Madrid still looking to replace C Ronaldo and the window's not shut yet.

Seriously though he looks a real prospect, along with Kioso the best players we've plucked from non league for a while. He should be aiming for 20ish goals at this level, even more so with Williams creating chances.

He is a workhorse that's for sure. He will need to weigh in with some goals if he wants to go higher though. He is a fox in the 6 yard box striker for me, and unless we are pressing home the advantage then chances may be in short supply for him to be getting anywhere near the 20 goals mark, we'll see.

Pools can't pluck anyone from non-league at the minute - they are non-league!

Take your point though - the last player 'from a lower division than us' that looked like a find right from the off was Jack Baldwin.

Can't remember too many from before then either - not sure the likes of John Borthwick and Michael Mackay ever looked like real prospects.

It was remarkable that Muir (Hendon) and Kioso (Dunstable) were not snapped up by one of the many southern NL clubs so all credit to Bates for bringing them to Pools. Muir has attracted most attention but at 19 years old, I think Kioso has a great future and I hope that we have him contracted for more than one year.

I must confess that after last season, I was resigned to our being out of contention for a return to the EFL for some years but the new signings have transformed the team and a playoff spot must be achievable now.

The last striker ho scored goals and was sold to Brighton was Malcolm Poskett the difference was he was aluxury away from home whereas Nico is a workaholic during games.

I imagine he will get even better as the season goes on. He will get fitter and stronger and will adjust to full time training.

Just a few months ago he was working in Sainsbury’s.

To adjust from that to training daily will take a bit of time.

It’s a bit ridiculous even commenting on his goal scoring record after 7 games, 2 goals so far certainly isn’t a cause for concern.

I imagine his fitness was good working there anyway the amount the self serves fuck up.

Anyway he’ll score twice on Saturday.
