Guardian sports coverage is a lot funnier than usual today, thank to some reader comments on the story that Premier League referee Bobby Madley has left his job and is relocating - apparently he's been caught shagging a dog!

Here's one comment:
"has anything else happened like this in other sports? Cricket maybe - Jack Russell? Do we know if this has ever affected a boxer?"

Sorry run that by me again...

He has quit refereeing because he ‘got caught shagging a dog’!?

If you have Twitter... simply search Bobby Madley.

It's mental.

It put a spaniel in the works as far as his refereeing career was concerned.

Aye, it would be a bit strange if it was a male dog, wouldn't it?

Referees have been complaining for years that they get dog’s abuse. I guess he decided to give it as well as take it, but took it a bit too literally...

He’s so ashamed he’s going to move to the most Easterly part of Canada and become a recluse; Labrador.

He supports Huddersfield. Guess he takes "up the the terriers" literally.

It just shows how careful you have to be when in the public spotlight, you just can’t get away with things your average Joe would, one small mistake like allowing yourself to be filmed having a sex with a Jack Russell and it’s all over in a heartbeat.

We live in a brutal World. I’m sure it’s nothing a stint in Celebrity Big Brother can’t fix.

Looking back he was always overly lenient towards Ross Barkley, Paul Pugba and Harry Kanine.

Maybe it was consensual?

It has to be a wind up?

Can't believe no one has mentioned Monkeybutt's shenanigans yet.

To be specific, the rimming thing.

I reckon it's all a big mix-up, something like 'All I did was blow my whistle and he came'.

Apparently he's a Terriers fan. There must be a joke or two in that.

You're all quick to judge. He only quit due to his marriage falling apart, not surprising after he got collared doing what he did.
