My sister lives in Leamington Spa, and her 6 six year old son goes to a school full of frightfully middle class kids - in his class there is a Maxwell, a Tobias, a Henry etc.

Anyroad, the school produced one of these recipe book things - parents contribute a recipe, it gets printed up in a cute book and sold to accquaintances of the families for charity.

In it were lots of really pretentious recipies for things involving obscure Tuscan olives, fair trade buffalo mozzerella, organic-hand-pressed-by-rustic-farmhands grape juice and so on. So my sister decides to chip in with 'the north easts favourite recipe' thinking they'll reject it, but it got in! She spelt it panaculty though, which doesn't look right to me.

Sorry to be thick, but have never heard of it.

one of my daughters was doing at project at school last year during the world cup. Each child had to choose a country competing to research/write up about etc and amongst other things, she had to cook a speciality meal from the country chosen. My daughter chose...........................ANGOLA sctatchinghead

Now, anyone know what the locals just love to eat in Angola!

we didn't think bush meat would go down too well...................but luckily we found a pudding recipe, basically a very sugary coconut dish. Not bad, if you like coconut of course.

I've heard of it - in fact I still eat it regularly. Its just another name for corned beef hash (corned beef, potato and maybe a few suet dumplings). Other people may say different though - there is another variation in the Liverpool area called 'Scouse' - basically just a mix up of all the left over bits of meat and veg.

...and thats all from the Naked Chef...

scouse is better than panakelty its more veg and meaty having lived in liverpool for 4 years (hensce my old sign in Liver_poolie) they also sell a mean scouse pie at anfield, anyway my mam makes panakelty basically like lasagne style thing with a layer of corned beer then a layer of potatoe then corf beef etc all in a big dish covered in oxo onion gravy lush!!!

The word is a corruption of "Pan Haggerty" which is a traditional skunk/mag/barcode/toon/geordie dish.

ay good stuff that like. but corned dog used to be cheap stuff. you can even get Premium corned dog these days, thats a bit of a contradiction in terms really. I recommend a tin of heinz beans a dash of tabasco and worcester sauce to make your panaculty sing

The Billingham version of Panakelty is as described before, but the meat content is bacon instead of corned beef, between the layers of potato.

I love curry but I don't like it being added to things that I already like the taste of. Last time I had black pudding it had chilli in it. CHILLI in black pudding. It spoiled everything
